Of course we are missin' Yao, that's true. But it is good that we can still win ballgames without our big fella.

Given the way the team's playing I doubt it. Even if the Rockets are one and out in the playoffs I think the new coach and the new scheme are going to be enough to convince Alexander to give it another shot.

One more thing: chemistry is a hard, hard thing to come by. If you trade Yao what guarantee do you have that the piece you get back will be able to mesh with the other guys? If you trade T-Mac what guarantee do you have?

I'd say stick with the core no matter what happens this year. Let's see how things look when the Rockets get one more year of Adelman's motion offense under their belts.

I think he's talking about Shaq in his prime. My only response would be that Yao played Shaq awfully, awfully tough when he first came into the league.

This thread had nothing to do with Yao vs Shaq vs Hakeem. So have some sense if you have any before trash talking.

What does that have to do with this discussion?

It's just like someone says "Jordan OWNS TMAC" in a Rockets and Mcgrady thread. Can you see how dumb a post like that is now?

Let me know if you need further help.

Did Yao announce he is going to return if Rox makes the playoff? Just see a post on Yahoo message board.

first of all, it is the today's winning formula....in the REGULAR season. everyone knows the game slows down in the playoffs. did phoenix win last year? did golden state win last year? no they didnt. the spurs won mainly because of their post presence. i think many of you are missing the point of this run. minus the jazz game, the rockets won 16 straight with yao. so until the rockets win 16 without him, let's stop this debate. we are a contender with yao and inspirational without him.

People, Yao is not punishing people in the post. He is shooting 10 ft fadeaways and getting those blocked sometimes. Plus he's averaging 4 or 5 turnovers a night trying to dribble. His passes out of double teams hurt. He's slow to get back on D and gets blown by on drives to the bucket.

Yao is very skilled offensive player for his size. Nothing more, nothing less. If shoots another layup when he should haved DUnKed. I will trade him myself: :D

NOTE- I do NOT believe the team is better without Yao. With that in mind....

    1) Did the Rockets win last year in the 1st round? No. Did Phoenix get into the 2nd round and have the series with the Spurs tied before Amare and Diaw were suspended in game 5 at Phoenix? Yes. Did the Warriors defeat the #1 seeded Mavs in the first round of the playoffs? Yes. The league is getting more and more uptempo, and while the Rockets have the best center in the league, he can often times be a liability on the defensive end (and to a lesser degree offnsive end with his TO's and inability to beat fronting). Without Yao, while we do lose a massive post presence, we also become more versatile and a better defensive team that can better adjust to teams like Utah, who tore us up largely because of the Boozer-Yao mismatch in Boozer's favor.

    2) Rockets won 12 straight with Yao, 8 straight without him...not 16 with him and 4 without him.

    See what Adelman said here:
    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/dailydime?page=dime-080313
Who do you think he meant by the "big fella"?

    Quoted here:
All joking aside, this win has to offer at least a little worry for Houston, as the team's ability to score against tough opponents remains in question without Yao Ming as a threat on the blocks.

"We don't have a low-post presence anywhere," said Adelman before the game. "Trust me, not having that big fella to throw the ball into when you need it is a big item."

The Rockets hadn't felt Yao's absence while the jumpers were falling, especially since several of the recent wins came against the league's lesser teams. But with McGrady struggling for a half and Rafer Alston mired in a 3-for-18 brickfest, they had nowhere to turn. They could still survive against a team like Atlanta, but when facing the likes of the Lakers or Celtics -- as they do Sunday and Tuesday -- they'll need to be much sharper.

Thank You. Bigpun, did you not watch the Phoenix / SA series? PHX was clearly the better team and had them on the ropes before the bogus suspensions.

I think it is delusional how people act like the rockets did so well in the playoffs last year with Yao, and now that he's gone we will crash and burn in the playoffs. Dude, we didn't even make it out of the first round with Yao, we can't do any worse.

they are better as long as tmac and rafer can shoot well, but since both can be streaky, they're not better off in the long run without yao

Except you were dead wrong. Rockets with Yao won 16 straight. The one loss in between was with Utah and Yao didn't play (out with the flu). Get your fact straight if you want to make argument.

Plus, you gonna compare Rockets this year and last? We now have Scola and Landry, Rafer is playing much better (because of the shooting coach Dean Cooper), the coaching staff is different, the offense is completely different, even the defense is quite different (and please please argue with me on this last point to show your bball knowledge).

it's the shame i think desert-rockets should be chinese. Stop showing off your distinctiveness by saying such craps. Throw the thread with your brain not your breast.

Whether better with or without Yao, see the offseason when rocket meet with spurs, lakers-type teams, which both play inside and outside well.
