NBA is a business, i am not saying "trade YAO" we are all well aware of what he brings to the table, i think the poster suggesting Yao to became less used in offense (in the low post) to finish unless he is open to get the ball is quite in the way on how Adelman will use him in the future.
Cant do that. In order for him to be open on those quick plays in the post, he has to spend a lot of time there. When he does that the lane will be clogged and T-Mac or Rafer wont have as easy a time penetrating as they do now.
What's crazy is the op made a opinion and backed it up and people act like the guy cursed yao's mama. I think yao is a good player, not great. He's been in yhe playoffs 3 times and had 1 good series against the mavs and 2 subpar series. I think yao is very effective at times but utah did play him 1 on 1 after the 1st couple games. I thought this team could play well without yao. They did it last season when he went out with less talent. There ae times when yao is a detriment, but most times he's a asset. This team has to play at a very high level to beat some of the playoff teams out west. What's more pressing to me is the smallness behind deke, tracy, and shane. Lets be honest, yao is a jumpshooting big man. When the rox needed a bucket, the give it to tracy anyway.
Put him on the court, he is a great player, just let him play ion the flow of the offense, force feeding him is what makes us more stagnant and hurt us more. Maybe Yao ends with 8-10 FG per game, but it doesn´t matter if that means he will shoot over 60% and we win.
we aren't winning a ring without yao - our offense still needs a guy to go to when the defense steps up - and we don't have yao in those cases.
When can we get rid of this stupid, annoying thread? We are playing great team work and someone are still talking about who is more important? Stop! No matter how far away we can go this season, we know we are going in right direction and playing the right way. That is to play as a team, get everyone involved. So please don't mention who is #1.
obviously, you need to think harder. what is your definition of "great" and "good"? if yao, arguably the best center, is merely "good", then the nba is full of "bad" players and won't be the best league in the world.
You make it seem as if "force feeding" Yao is a bad thing. The Rockets are hitting at a ridiculous clip right now (durvasa, what are we shooting at? Close to 50% during this stretch?). What happens when Rafer and Shane stops hitting the 3? What happens when McGrady puts in those 8-26 nights? That's right, you have Yao to have your back. He either hits a high percentage shot from 15ft in or he can drain his FTs. What's also funny is this talk about how Yao slowed this team down. If you recalled when McGrady was "injured", everyone around Yao stepped up. Head, Alston, Battier, Scola....all of them were producing just as well as they are now. The BIG exception is the play that Landry has been giving the Rockets during this stretch. Otherwise, Rafer was getting the same amount of points just about when Tracy was out as he is now (I have him on my fantasy team so I keep a pretty good eye on his stats). Luther was shooting pretty well. Same for Scola. When it's all said and done, this team right now is better without Yao in certain aspects: -matching up against faster opponents -matching up against smaller opponents But at the end of the day, when a team has to go through San Antonio to WIN IT ALL (because that's all that matters right?), you need Yao to beat them...which, I'd think, means that we are better with Yao than without him.
Yao commands the double team making it easier for our jump shooters to have more open shots. Also they can cut, slash all that good stuff. Players don't really like to drive as much with yao in the paint because well, he's friggin' 7'6!!
I think they can too. Yao is a GREAT offensive player, but he's not exactly know for his defense and defense wins championships.
Are you honestly telling me you think Scola and Landry can contain Tim Duncan in a 7 game series ALL THE WHILE still being productive on the offensive end? Granted they have 12 fouls between them to work with, but you're asking a lot out of two ROOKIES to not only contain Duncan AND produce offensively.
There's something about being 7'6" and 300+ that kind of pushes Duncan a bit further out of his comfort zone that helps a bit. But that's just me talking crazy.
plus in today's game you need centers who can run the floor. it's not a slow it down halfcourt game anymore. look what Shaq is doing in Phoenix. hes messing up their fast paced offense. Nash cant penetrate anymore with a big wall in the lane. Pau Gasol is doing great since hes so versatile. yes i would trade Yao for Pau.
....game by game fans...DAMN!!! STOP IT!!! We are NOT going to be able to beat elite teams without Yao, eventually you are going to realize that, but to say we are better without him is just annoying, I know you will get this once we lose to the better teams in the league….but I couldn’t wait for that….. This is Yao's team............he started this streak.......it's once T-Mac went down that this team learned how to play as a team, and T-mac has adjusted his game to that......
So now our offense is akin to the high octane one that Phoenix had before Shaq? There are some statements in this thread that are reaching pretty far. And last time I check, Duncan and Shaq (who both aren't doing the 40 at world class speeds) aren't really centers that run the floor and they have 7 rings between them.
