Something tells me some black Mississippians, particularly the older ones, might agree on some level. Don't forget, Mississippi's mostly black cuz that's where all the cotton was.

Which Rocket River was ever so subtly asking which other crap hole states they were to ferret out racism.

Sometimes, I wonder if those of us who live in non-Confederate states would have been better off if Lincoln had just let the South secede from the Union.

Maybe it's not too late to try it again?

Well, the NBA lets Toronto in and they are in a different country, too. :)

Also, I think TX might want to join with the Union now. I mean, otherwise, they'd be subsidizing the Mississippis.

Sam Houston, then Governor of Texas, and former Senator from the state, (not to mention everything else he did... a remarkable man) made every effort to get Texas to secede and declare independence, not to join the Confederacy. To restore the Republic of Texas. He would have preferred that we remain in the Union, but that if Texas felt it had to leave, to go it's own way. Had he been successful, it would have changed history. For his efforts, he was forced out of office. The tide was too strong against him. The pro-Confederacy feelings swept the state, like it did the South. Many came to regret not listening to him.

One of my ancestors fought with Sam at San Jacinto, and has his name inscribed on the monument.

Might not have been a bad option at all. I think the country would would much better off if all the conferderate sourthern states joined the Republic of Republicans.

at least be original, you just used that joke last week with kerry, and it doesn't even apply, he said nothing about the people's education level.
