They knew who he was. They wouldn't have hung around and taken all that footage if they didn't. Think about the shows main objective. An athlete walking around attracting attention is not exactly entertaining. Had Chuck not shut down Gasol in the playoffs, they wouldn't have showed that clip.
It makes you wonder if it was The NBA or if it was Garnett himself or his agent or Adidas, much like Lebron snuffing out that weak ass dunk from that pickup game.
