Don't see why he wouldn't be considered a high potential young post man. Has the height, moves, and skill to be a great player. Has range and a plethora of low post moves, just needs to improve his rebounding/defense/strength big time.
Donatas, TRob and TJones are fantastic prospects. I am excited about every single one of them in their own way.
I think (want to think?) the lad has the greatest upside of the masses at the 4 currently on the roster. DMo only had two things working against him last season: being a rookie and being a rookie from not-in-USA. The strength etc will come. Develop the man. He can become The Man.
I don't think one year with limited playing time is a big enough sample to say either way. What has me still in his corner is his age! I wouldn't be surprised if he's our most improved player next year, that is if he survives the offseason without being traded. ........ ........ ........
Pau Gasol in his best season: 68% shooting at the rim; 43% shooting from 3-10 ft. Motiejunas: 74% shooting at the rim; 49% shooting from 3-10 ft. 29% shooting from three. Looks pretty obvious that DMo was used incorrectly and to a great degree. If he improves his shot, then playing as a stretch 4 makes sense. Otherwise he should be playing the role of a Pau Gasol, not a Matt Bonner.
He was misused in the system, was forced to be a stretch 4 when he couldn't shoot 3s. It's unfortunate but he could really flourish in a different system. I think he has really high potential.
He's going to be good. Wait and see. It's not unusual for big men to take time to develop. Not everyone is an Akeem Olajuwon or a Ralph Sampson, who were both outstanding right off the bat. Even Olajuwon continued to improve as the years went by. He went from great to great. While Donuts may never be great, he could be very, very good. It's too early to know.
10% he becomes 'a force' (ie 10m+/yr) 20% decent starter (7-9M/yr) 40% solid bench/role player (4-6M/yr) 20% hangs around as end of the bench roster filler (1-3M/yr) 10% he's outta the league within 2 years and workin at Derr Weinersnitchel ($8-10/hr) I'd love to have those odds! LOL
The problem with Dmo is that he already has more than plenty of skills but he's limited by the size and phisicality. This is completely opposite of most top prospets(skills can be learned but phisical talent is mostly from gene). He's deceptively undersized with short wingspan and low vertical, and there're stories about the strength training significantly messed up his shooting and mobility in the past(so that he reverted back to less strength training). There's a reason he's picked up in the 20's and very few people are optimistic about him outside of Houston.
That's pretty interesting. I'd like to think it means something, but I'm not quite sure....... How hard would it be for him to get his 3 point percentage up to a Rasheed Wallacesque 35% or so? Doesn't have to be Dirk - cuz he won't - but a good enough shooter to give us some spacing. Even though I hope he can fill a stretch 4 role, I agree he's underutilized in the post on offense. He was effective there almost every time I can remember. For every 3 point shot he makes, reward him with a post up!!!
Coach was trying to use him as a hustle and defensive guy who shoots three pointers. He needs to be used as a pure post player who also runs the floor. Still has the greatest upside of any player on our team not named James Harden.
Motiejunas's offense is NOT that far away. By the (misleading) per-36/min stat, he's the 2ND LEADING SCORER on the team behind Harden, ahead of Parsons and Lin. And per-36 even more scoring threat than Delfino. As other's have pointed out, D-Mo's actually very good in shots close to the rim, above league average. It doesnt mean he's actually a legit post-up you can just keep feeding. He can be scoring off put backs, close-in assists and defense sagging off him. But it does mean that even at his thin body that he CAN be that by just getting stronger and more confident. Its making him into a pure stretch 4 taking too many shots from outside thats the issue. His DEFENSE on the other hand, thats where he's behind ... D-Mo can run the court end-to-end very well straight line for his height. His lateral footwork could use work. He has length to compensate for guys getting around him. But he's not strong and he easily gets bullied and in quick foul trouble. D-mo can be an effective NBA rotation player. He doesnt have to be another David Andersen. He can be kinda a taller poor man's Antawn Jamison, if that makes sense. Just dump in buckets without any form, be respectable in rebounds and D.
I don't. Truth is, he should have been better than he was this season. He has been playing professionally long enough. Plus, there are players already in front of him. Trade him.
