I like the idea of getting a big like Lopez or Hibbert that Deke can take under his wing for a year.

I would be completely in favor of drafting Bill Walker. He can do it all: defend, rebound, attack, post up, and shoot. The guy is also huge for a wing player, with a similar build to Corey Maggette, so you know his body is NBA ready. Another good thing about him is that he's always active, you notice the effort and intensity. I watched K-State games to see Beasley, but came away very impressed with Walker.

What makes Walker a project, may I ask? He looks ready to contribute right away. Any why are draft sites so down on him? Is it because he tore his ACL? Brandon Roy and Landry tore their ACL's too and they're beasting now.

I want size and athleticism with an outside shot.

My vote is for Donte Greene.
    NBA Comparison: Rashard Lewis/Marvin Williams
Strengths: A long and versatile player that possesses tremendous perimeter skills … An athletic specimen with enormous potential … Deadly out of the triple threat, where he utilizes jabs and pump fakes to attack the opposition … A shot maker with the ability to convert on a variety of acrobatic and off-balance shots … His skill, athleticism and size make him a difficult match up … His leaping ability and body control allow him to finish over and around people in the lane … He possesses a terrific spin move … Also shows great form and range on his shot … Shows a nice pull up off the dribble … He's willing to mix it up in the post where his repertoire is growing, has a nice right mini-hook and a very effective fade away … Has a good feel for the ball, combined with his length make him a dangerous shot blocker as well as a disruptor in the passing lanes … Attacks the offensive glass aggressively …

    Sounds perfect to me.

Good call. I would take Walker in heartbeat, the kid has sick athletism and will be much better than what he's shown so far, he could be the real steal of this draft. Heard he's lost like 20 or 30 pounds just recently and I see him vaulting up big time on alot of GMs draft boards.

The Rockets will get OJ Mayo, it's in the cards. I bet you anything he'll fall pretty hard this year.

    You seriously think that?

If so, how do you think that it will happen?

Why are people still underrating CDR? I saw on FakeGM they have him drafted at 27th pick! 27th pick! I watched few Memphis college games, he was arguably the best player on that team, I mean if Derick Rose can go #1 and CDR should definitely go top 15. This is a travesty!!!

The draft is still about 4+ weeks away and players haven't been drafted yet. CDR will probably move up the board before it's all said and done. Just give it time.

Trade the pick, we aren't getting anything good out of it

my boss is having dinner with the lopez twins and their family tonight I asked him to inquire what Robin (seeing how he would be the more realistic option) what he thought of the rockets and possibly playing there.

hopefully he will ask and we'll see what happens if I get any info I'll let people here know

And show them a "Who wants to sex Mutombo" line? Jk but it would be a great idea..only IF The dream would work for the Rockets as an assistant coach then Yao will be great!

I think with the scandal coming out his stock will drop, but not too dramatically, either he falls in the rockets hands or Houston does something stupid and trades someone like Shane to move up a couple spots. I really think Mayo will turn out to be the Chris Webber of this generation. Bust all around. I'm sorry Cwebb fans, it aint no thing if you don't gotta ring.

I completely disagree about trading Shane Battier for Mayo. I believe O.J. Mayo on this Rocket team would be outstanding for the team. He's a point that this team desperately needs to compete with the great points in the West.

I could explain more of why I believe that would be a great trade for Houston, but I somewhat doubt I'd change your mind and I've already explained it in this very thread before.

Pretty much my friend. But, I've pretty much come to terms with the fact that Shane will be dealt. He's a really good piece for a team that has almost all the pieces of the formula, and yet I can totally imagine a team composed of the young talent we have. I mean, look at the future of this team: Brooks, Landry, and Mayo on a team will be sick, mix in Scola and Dekembe, and you got an awesome force to be dealt with. With that said, I still don't want it, I'm like the ***'s on this board, except for Shane Battier.

Ultimately, I think keeping the team the way it is and risking it is way better than changing it up. Look at PHX or DAL, but who knows right?

Eh don't be so sure. It's not set in stone that Shane will be dealt by any means. He is a great player and I like him, but I really believe Mayo would be a major upgrade for this team with the way he plans and the position he plays.

You brought up a good point that I didn't even think about. If we did get Mayo, him mixed with Landry, Brooks, and our young talent would be very compelling. Add in Scola/Dikembe and the team looks even more formidable.

Even with that you haven't even mentioned the most important players on the team. Him with McGrady and Yao would be potent offensively. Mix in the fact that he pretty darn good defender and the team looks set for years to come to make runs at a championship/s.

Now understand, everything I say is predicated on getting Mayo. You don't trade Battier to move up and get anyone, and I mean anyone else. Of course, you would have to sign someone to replace him, but I'd just be ecstatic if they pulled off the trade to begin with.

It'd leave us with a GAPING hole at SF (ie - only TMac on the roster who can even play the position) - and then we'd be chasing 2 6'6+ SG/SF types in free agency with only the MLE to spend.

Mind you, IF we could score Mayo, Rafer Alston see ya later! Could we use Rafer + Head to pick up some overpaid 3 like Kapono?

Yes, we would have a hole at the SF spot, BUT the most important position in basketball (as many say) and our largest weakness vs other great teams would be filled with a multi-talented, play-making PG.

And I ask you, what position is harder to fill with talent: PG or the SF position?

Yes, we could pull a deal for an overpaid 3 like Kapono, but that is definitely not ideal. Especially for him. May as well go for a guy that is overpaid like Maggette etc. We will see however.
