Are you kidding?!?!?! A 7 foot version of Chuck would be an All-Star for defensive ability alone!!! The fact Chuck is under-sized is really his only negative at his price.
Did you see ESPN's new mock draft? They have Westbrook going in the lottery. http://insider.espn.go.com/nbadraft...om/nbadraft/draft/tracker/rank?draftyear=2008
LOL, did i just read "chuck" and "all star" in the same sentence? I mean I am a rocket's homer and all, but my, my, my...
Let's just leave it up to Daryl Morey to totally shock us and draft the ultimate sleeper like Aaron Brooks or Carl Landry.
How does Aaron Brooks qualify as "the ultimate sleeper." I guess I missed where Brooks solidified himself as a starter in this league.
Exactly! If Chuck Hayes were 7 foot tall he would DESTROY Ben Wallace in his prime! Man, I had no interest in Robin Lopez before, but this guy totally sold me on him!
I was always a big Hibbert guy but if Deke comes back i'm okay with drafting else where. One guy that nobody talks about is that J.J. Hickson kid from NC State. From what i've seen he's a legit 6'9" PF/C with a ton of athleticism and upside. Definitely a bit of a project but given our strength at PF and C as is, we could stand to develop future 4/5 player to possibly replace Deke or step up in the event of an injury.
Yeh, I was looking at him too. I was thinking he could be a Jason Maxiell type of player. I don't really care that we have scola and landry already, I would be okay with drafting Hickson. I mean, look at the pistons, they stack up big men all the time: Maxiell, Amir Johnson, McDyess, Rasheed, Ratliff.
Having perused the different draft sites that are out there, I think we have three options. 1) Trade the pick (and possibly Head/BJ) for a veteran 2) Trade the pick for 2 second rounders (several temas have 2) 3) Pick the best 6'6''+ SG/SF There is no way of knowing what vets would be available for what we could offer and truthfully I dont know that we would really do any better with this option than re-signing Geral Green. I like the second option as there are a couple of intriguing players that currently have second round grades. For us I like Hardin, Dorsey, and Pekovic as bigs who might be taken in the second and Walker, Foster, Weaver and J. Gordon as 2s coming off board in round 2. If we keep the pick I would take a long hard look at Rush, Speights (wet dream) or McGee. Assuming that a top 15 does not fall to where we are I think I would rather trade for a couple of second rounders. This is an approach more often used in the NFL draft, but we have precise needs that are not likely to be filled at our pick. I'd take a non-guaranteed shot at a couple of guys that MIGHT pan out rather than be saddled with a piece of shiite.
I hear ya. If he's there its hard not to consider. I know we've been through the "...he's raw but athletic and has tons potential..." scenarios before with Swift and what not but at least this time the only "risk" would only be a late first-rounder. If you weigh the risk vs. reward it's definitely in your favor in that instance. He reminds me of a mix of Maxiell (like you said) or maybe a Chris Wilcox or Brandon Bass. His size, athleticism and presence around the basket will definitely still stand out. He looks like the kind of athlete that could develop into an elite rebounder.
