    Take Embidd.

Knowing the Cavs, they'll draft a point guard.

It's the Cavs, so they'll likely pick Vonleh and have a top 4 pick trio of Vonleh, Bennett, Thompson. Best front office and scouting unit in the NBA.

    Lebron
    Irving
    Bennett

2 times they got the best player in the draft, one is still early out of a terrible class of players. I wouldn't call them incompetent at drafting #1 overall. Building a contender, yeah, but not drafting #1.

They didn't have to think about drafting LeBron, it was not debatable and he was a sure fire HOFer.

2013: The Bennett pick was r****ded, they already had a guy in Thompson at that position and the biggest need was a nice perimeter defender next to wing. There's Oladipo available and you pick a fat Bennett? And even if you wanted him that much, you could've easily traded down for him.

2012: Picked Thompson at #4. I like him as a player, but picking him at 4(again, no trading down) when there are guys like Drummond, Barnes, Ross, Lamb, Henson, etc available was pure stupidity.

They wasted two top 4 picks on guys that never had the upside to become all-stars and the Bennett pick was a complete brainfart, so yea, they are incompetent at drafting.

What Cleveland should do at this point is gauge the ability to skip the entire window for developing talent and try and trade for one of the following-

    Minnesota- Love
    Memphis - Gasol
    OKC- Westbrook
Houston - Harden (even though I wouldn't do the deal personally)
    Sacramento - Cousins
Indiana - George (long-shot, but if they are planning on big extension for Lance... you never know)

They can use this pick to jump into IMMEDIATE contention, but more than likely they wont be able to get a deal like this done.

If they cant than I think you have to take Wiggins, but I actually wouldn't be shocked if they take more "for-sure" thing in Parker since he's probably going to come in and produce from day 1.

After that they need to do what they can to bring in another impact player in free agency. Preferably a big.

-Let Deng walk. You need to let either Parker or Wiggins have free reign without Deng taking up their PT & shots.
-Keep Varejao for his final year unless you can upgrade with an Asik type of big whose a little bit more reliable. You need that defensive anchor.
-Hire a damn coach who knows what they are doing. George Karl, Jerry Sloan type. I do think that coaching job just got a hell of alot more appealing now given the strong ability the Cavs now have to turn it around quick, or if they get that transcendent player in this draft, having him and Irving as young stars for the future.

I would take Embiid and follow that up by offering up Bennett and Zeller to any team looking to get younger for a starting quality veteran at either the 2,3 or 4 position. That way the team is built around Irving and Embiid, with Waiters and Thompson around as good young players to complement the star players and the veteran from the trade to put it all together. Has to be the right guy though cause they tried it with Deng and that did not work.

This is another Clowney experience. Let the games begin. We'll probably even hear about Vonleigh and Smart at #1 before it's over with.

I have a feeling this might end up like the Greg Oden/KD situation with Embiid and Wiggins

Q Based on last night's surprising outcome of the lottery and Cleveland getting the first pick in the draft, which prospect is the best "fit" for the Cavs? Is there a player that is clearly much better than the rest? Thanks...

Chad Ford (1:06 PM) I think Jabari Parker has been a top their board most of the year. It makes sense. He's the most NBA ready and with Luol Deng's future hazy, it's easy to see Parker (who has some statistical comps to Deng) as a replacement who can help them right away. However, there are concerns about his defense on an already poor defensive team. There are also concerns that he doesn't have the long-term star potential that the Cavs crave. They also have a need at the five. Varejao is 32 years old and they need a long term replacement. Joel Embiid has as much upside as anyone in the draft and would be perfect. However, the back concerns are real. The Cavs don't even know yet whether they'll get him in for medicals. And he's the least NBA ready of the prospects. That leaves Wiggins. Wiggins is a balance between the now and the future. Addresses defensive needs right away. Takes care of some of the issues they have with a Dion Waiters/Kyrie Irving backcourt. Can play the 2 and the 3. And he has star potential. Will be interesting to see how it plays out. Different people in the Cavs have different opinions. But in totality, I think Wiggins is the favorite.

Don't see the Cavs taking Parker, it just doesn't make any sense to have a defensive liability in Kyrie and other guys and then taking Jabari, who would only worsen their defensive woes. Wiggins or embiid makes way more sense.
But then again, it's the Cavs and they don't make the most intelligent decisions when drafting.

You have to do pretty awful to be a bust center while in the league teams are in need of big mens. Wiggins and Parker is nothing special and many players in the league would eat them alive tho.

Caves being Cavs watch them take Embiid and end up with a bust.

All kidding aside though I don't see the point of rolling the dice when you have the number 1 pick. Parker and Wiggins have dwade and Lebron floors...at worst your gonna have an above average NBA player. Why waste that to go with Embid? Sure Embiid has a higher ceiling but he's also riskier, this is like choosing a 50% chance to get 2M dollars over a guaranteed 1.5M.
