Slow your roll, man. The list of rookie CBs that didn't get it their first year would include Nnamdi Asomugha and Aqib Talib, citing two very recent examples. There are plenty more. CB is a difficult position and they threw Jackson to the wolves with inexperienced/incompetent coaches. I think it's WAY too early to ditch Kareem Jackson, and certainly way too early to determine he'll "never" be an NFL corner. If moving Quin to FS makes him and the team better, you do it. Putting Jackson there - who, I don't believe, has any experience or known measurables comparable to playing FS - just for the sake of change is not a very good idea at all. Let him sink or swim at corner.
Except Jackson's problems are physical. His recovery speed and reaction time is just terrible. Those are not things that can simply be fixed
Let's wait and see what Wade Phillips thinks first. Jackson was a starter for Nick Saban and failed under Frank Bush. I'm inclined to put less stock in the Frank Bush era.
I doubt he will be. He quit on Kubiak. He refused to take a pain killer for his shoulder in the last game. I don't think he wants to be here and I don't think Kubiak wants him here so that should be that.
That whole situation was strange. Pollard will join the growing list of Houston Texans' 1-year-wonders.
I'd still like to keep Pollard around. Similar to the Dunta situation, but without the mega-contract. If you can keep around a useful guy you do it - one less void to replace. The lockout will mean a super short offseason and FA period. The fewer moves the better. Lessen his role, but let Phillips work Pollard in: he's a decent guy that can blitz, lay hard hits, help the run game, and marginally cover TEs when we send LBs on a blitz (which Phillips will want to do a lot of). I don't want a rookie, especially one drafted after the first round, starting in his place. I'm pessimistic that Smith is able to bring in two strong starters for the CB and S positions. A rookie or bench DB could replace him nickel packages.
Yep. CB is the toughest position to learn outside the QB. Peyton Manning sure turned out to be a bust! Man, people are so quick to label busts. Give the guy an adequate coach and some time before making rash proclamations.
I think Kareem deserves another shot at CB, under the new DC, before considering him a bust. I am not sure I would out and out hand him the starting CB job going into mini-camps/training camp, like was done last year, but let him compete for it and see what happens.
I want Pollard knocking out slanting WR's, TE's in the seam and RB's slipping out of the backfield after checking for the blitz.... however Wade can make that happen. You could trade down for extra picks and get Rahim Moore around 25. ESPN's Scouts Inc. Moore grades at 90 90-100 Rare Prospect Player demonstrates rare abilities and can create mismatches that have an obvious impact on the game. Is a premier college player that has all the skill to take over a game and play at a championship level. He rates in the top 5 players in the nation at his position and is considered a first round draft prospect.
I just looked at ESPN's draft page and they had him at 88. Regardless, how rare of a prospect can you be when there are 27 other players in the same draft who rate just as highly? There were at least 32 players rated 90 or higher last year, including Kareem Jackson who was rated as the 21st best prospect with a grade of 92.
Just a thought on how you can get three players for the D. Swap #1's and get an extra #2 (or 3). In the top 50 (or 75) picks you draft a FS/CB, a NT and a OLB. Say: Rahim Moore, FS, UCLA , Phil Taylor, NT, Baylor , and Sam Acho, DE, Texas to play a 4-3 OLB. #11 is where someone is going to jump up for Newton if he falls or Justin Blackmon.
