Indeed. Simon isn't successful because he's on American Idol: he's on American Idol because he's successful. It's easy to hate on Simon Cowell, TV persona, but you have to remember that long before American Idol, Cowell was a very big success in the music biz, and has a LOT of experience with musicians. You may not like the style he chooses to market, but he definitely knows about singing.

I think there's the population that likes that theme. And another half that HATE a small person getting handed overnight fame because of envy. The crabs in a barrel approach. My opinion on the show - From day 1 my difference with the show was, while I liked some of the people on the show and stories were good, I didn't like the fact they're TELLING me the winner IS my "American Idol". Like they're forcing it down my throat to HONOR Taylor Hicks winning the contest to go buy his records. I dont give the show's platform enough credibility for them to tell me what artist to support. So all the stuff going on outside the story lines is largely irrelevant. Anyways, I'm down for Harry Connick Jr. I heard Noel Gallagher get mentioned. Thats a boom or bust pick. Perez Hilton would be a DISASTER. He'd be better on American's Next Top Model than American Idol.
As somebody who had watched it the last 3 seasons until this one, they need to get someone who is either a former singer that is charismatic or someone who knows the music business like Simon does. Brett Michaels has potential as does Harry Connick, Jr. Madonna would bring in ratings at first but then like someone else said, I think it would go stale. One person that should do it and I would think would be good because from what I read is very much an ******* and that would be Clive Davis. Hell, he's the one that pretty much tells the winner how they are going to do their first record so he plays a role in American Idol to begin with. Just make him even more visible by putting him as a judge.
Gene Simmons. He has a music background, discovered talent before (Van Halen), is articulate and opinionated. And he has a ego like Simon.
No one. They should end this show already. All the singers/contestants sound the same year in and year out. It's like watching a season of Family guy with the same story line every season.
How about Obama, he is always shares his opinion on every other topic not related in anyway to his political expertise, this would be the perfect situation for him. He could Reform American Idol.

This might be entertaining to see, but I don't know if Gene can save the show. Simon made American Idol what it is. The show will need to evolve to stay alive. I doubt that will happen.
Well if they could take Ellen off the show and add someone like Madonna or Harry Connick Jr in Ellen's place along with adding Gene Simmons that might help things. The next thing is they need to do is to fix the voting system where teenage crushes don't decide the winner.
