This should be our depth chart for SG 1. Wafer 2. Barry 3. Alston 4. Brooks 5. Battier 6. Artest 7. Head 8. Scola 9. Landry 10. Yao 11. Mutumbo 12. Dorsey
you guys are crazy to think wafer should start instead of mcgrady, seriously, this shouldn't even be debatable. wafer does nothing on defense and i really don't see where you get the idea that wafer makes the whole team better. wafer also doesn't pass as good as tmac, he isn't nearly as good on jumpshots, his three pointers are relative, (0-6 performance recently). we just need to get tracy to drive to the basket more often, wafer can't really create the offense like tracy does, von works better under the offense we had without mac and ron but obviously that isn't the way rick has the team playing right now.
The offense runs better with Wafer in the lineup. He *makes* the other team guard him whether he has the ball or not. On defense, Wafer has issues but I know one issue he doesn't have is a lack of effort. That lack of effort is what we're seeing game in and game out from TMac. BTW, name 5 games in a row when the Rockets played reasonably well? You'll notice that TMac wasn't playing.
Just to get the stats out there: So far this season. Link to excellent CFans stats page Wafer .472 % FG .403 % 3Pt FG 10.9ppg in 22.3 mpg Tmac .388% FG .366% 3Pt FG 15.5ppg in 33.9 mpg It is not even close, one is an efficient scorer and the other is not. DD
Start TMac, but reduce his minutes. No doubt, Wafer has earned the right to play more. When TMac was at his peak, he and Wafer would not be comparable. It is a testimony to his decline that a role player actually plays better and many ways he does. TMac is still the superior passer, but I have watched Wafer make some niffty assists. Wafer shoots better, and drives much better. He elevates better, moves quicker. Defensewise, it's a wash.
that's only in scoring. tracy is better at utilizing yao and scola and don't tell me the offense works better with wafer because it's a DIFFERENT offense, if it's better or not is arguable but it's something rick adelman decides
I would love to see T-Mac in a 6th man role. Starting Lineup: (Nice flowing offense) Yao, Scola, Battier, Wafer, Rafer 2nd Unit: (some firepower, not a lot of motion. goal is to maintain the lead) Landry, Artest, T-Mac, Barry, Brooks 3rd Unit (used as needed): Hayes, Head, and Mutombo Oh...and for the record, TMac should play more minutes than Wafer and I think that both should end the game.
But we are discussing opinion on a Rocket's fan board, if you are going to defer to Rick then why post? The offense runs better when Tmac does not have the ball, that is what it looks like to me.... When AB started the team averaged 109.5 ppg......because he attacked the basket. When TMac was out the offense was better with Rafer running the show because the entire team was a threat to score. My opinion is that Tmac hurts the overall team by him being a ball stopper.... DD
I think Von will come down to earth pretty soon, just like Aaron has. Teams will figure him out. So I would leave Tracy as the starter. Plus, Wafer is even worse on the defensive end than McGrady. With that said, I think he definitely has earned to be one of the top 4 wingmen between him, Tracy, Ron and Shane and should get 15-20 minutes a game. As others have said, he should have played over Ron yesterday at the end.
Hey DD, you couldn have put this in the thread u started about what to do with wafer when everyone is healthy thread or did you feel the need to start another one? Just asking. Really though, my solution was to play Tracy and Ron 25mins and Shane and Wafer 23 mins. That keeps everyone fresh and allows guys to get back in the flow. What did Adelman do? !st game out the box, big minutes for ron and tracy.
Umm, there is a reason that Wafer plays almost no minutes in the 4th quarter. Anyway, start Tracy, reduce his minutes if he's not being effective.
A lot of people said they would have changed their mind in that poll, if there was a way to let people change their votes.....and have the poll reflect it, then I would have simply bumped that one. Sometimes it takes other people a while longer to get to the party, but usually I am the one there tapping the keg first. Adelman is clearly an issue as well, he has not run a meritocracy and it drives me nuts. DD
Well I still disagree. Von is palying really well right now, but that doesn't mean he should just jump right into the starting role over Tracy. I think hes getting better by each game. The NY game I only watched the first half but I did see him get to the rim he just cound't get it done. I think in time he will be better around the basket.
You dont create threads for for stars or poll results do you? I dont know, i think it might be time to drop the A-Bomb on the whole thing personally. I'm talking bombing into lotto land.
I create threads just to see what people really think, I like polls because it allows people that don't post to vote, there are a lot of people that read and do not post all that much and some not at all. Actually, it would be fun if some of them would post in this thread just to say, they are here. Lurkers of the world UNITE ! Putting up a poll gives a voice to the silent majority. DD
You may be right there, but... I think that our big three do not fully mesh (they do mesh but up to a certain degree) and that we need to separate the minutes so that they play without too much overlap. Code: 1st 12:00 Yao starts Wafer start 1st 6:00 Take out Wafer bring in Tracy 2nd 12:00 Take out Yao and bring in Artest 2nd 6:00 Bring in Yao 2nd 3:00 Take out Tracy and bring in Wafer By halftime Yao has 18, Tracy 15, Artest 12, and Wafer 9 minutes 3rd 12:00 Yao starts Wafer start 3rd 9:00 Bring in Tracy and take Wafer out 3rd 6:00 Bring in Artest 4th 12:00 Take Yao out 4th 9:00 Take out Tracy and Artest and bring in Wafer 4th 6:00 Bring in Tracy and Yao and take out Wafer By the end of game Yao has 36, Tracy 30, Artest 21, and Wafer 18 minutes. This is Yao's team so it only makes sense for him to play the most minutes. The rest of rotation is worked around this theme. By distributing the minutes in this fashion there is not a lot of overlap between the big three in minutes which will allow them to thrive within the best offense optimized for their style of play. I think it would be nice to try; although, I think that it would never happen because of the way that Adelman runs his ship.
