McNair will hire a slightly less congenial version of Kubiak. He will have NFL head coaching experience and playoff success. But he'll still have that folksy demeanor and subdued personality that McNair covets. Uncle Bob doesn't want any personalities. He wants a company man, though and through.
To be fair, not many owners want a Rob Ford as their coach. Also, no one on the market really fits your description. There are no "aw shucks" good old boys out there. Except Wade of course. (lol )
It still bothers me that the Steelers didn't promote him in 2007; that team has a pretty decent track record with hiring head coaches and they didn't seem him worthy when Cowher left. Zimmer and O'Brien remain at the top of my wish lit, FWIW.
I've become increasingly worried about this sort of thing. Though it feels less 'folksy' and more nostalgia/hometown/fan favorite driven. He's got a blind spot for that Houston or Texas connection because the thinks it plays well with the fans. It feels like this is why he stuck with Kubiak for so long after bringing him 'home' and why Wade probably has much more of a shot of being head coach than he has a right too. It'll probably bring Manziel here as well.
What ties did Casserly or Capers have to Texas? McNair strikes me as a guy who knows the end is near and has lost some (if not all) of his patience.
He strikes me as a guy who is determined to make a safe choice and go with an NFL retread (Lovie, Wisenhunt, Wade) instead of taking a chance on an up-and-comer (Darrell Bevell, Pete Carmichael, Bill O'Brian).
Wasn't Kubiak an up-and-comer? He's failed with a retread; he's failed with the hot assistant. If he picks among Smith, Whisenhunt and O'Brien... I'd be ok with any of those names.
The Sumlin stuff needs to be put to rest once and for all. He has no NFL experience (part of McNair's criteria) He just signed a new deal with aTm The defense has been atrocious wherever he's been He's 0-4 against ranked teams this year even with a returning Heisman Trophy winner at QB
Not that interesting. The second they said they were interested in Shaw, several outlets reported that there was zero chance he would even interview for another position. As usual, Pancakes is late with the story... and I think its a mistake that the Texans are not even going to consider coordinators/assistants (without HC experience) as possible candidates.
Lovie Smith will be named head coach Kyle Shanahan will be named OC We'll trade our 2nd round pick for Cousins Clowney will be the Texans #1 pick Quickest way to get back into contention which is what Bob is going for.
not too mention he's horrendous in big games and pathetic without a quarterback that can run his offense. watch his star dull next year without a stud QB
