Yeah, right. We want Yao to think he should be a 7'6" point guard.

As much as I hated him as a player (and loved him in Airplane), I'd have to agree here. Jabbar could teach him to dominate with finesse, much like he did. Kareems style of play extended his career and I think it could do the same for Yao.

Cause I am sure thats is what Sampson will encourage Yao to do, try and be a point guard.

Have you ever heard the term "point center"?? Offense runs through the center, a la a Bill Walton??

Sampson was a great passer with great court vision for his size. Not unlike Yao.

Ewing and Hakeem were great players but in a different way. They were good passers, but they didn't have the great court vision and natural passing abitlity like Yao has or Sampson had.

In the end, Yao is cut more from the mold of a Walton/Sampson/Jabbar than he is Olajuwon/Ewing/Moses.

The ting to remember also is: Moses and Hakeem would do it for free. If you were to get a "big man coach" it would cost you. I would also like to see us use that money more wisely. One of the assisatant coaches can help with the finess, but Malone and Olajuwan would teach him to be more aggressive and use his stature. Just my 2 cents though.

    Malone.

He was mean and tough. He could score 40, rebound 20, and kick your ass for the heck of it!!!

Plus, you don't want things to get too complex in *language* with Yao. Just keep things simple in terms of English.

Hakeem? No. He has an accent which would make things worse for Yao.

As far a the best techniqes teacher.

    There's only one: Pete!

laugh, thought you were talking about Karl. I was so shocked at the thought that I forgot about Moses. My appologies for thinking you would make such an insane suggestion. ;)

No Ewing, please. He can only teach Yao to shoot more fadeaways! Dream has all the post moves that Yao needs, if only he can teach.

    Good thread starter¡£
Because basic basketball rule is that higher shooting pctg incures when you colseer to the rim.And most available player is the bigman who can reach the rim as close as possible. So answer for rox is Yao.I do hope Steve realizes it deeply in his heart. When yao close to the rim,Steve and other will get easyly shooting chance because yao's attracting more palyers to defend him.
Harkeem is one of the best center in NBA especially his dreaming move ,which can help yao a lot.Yao can learn more experience from "dream" under Harkeem's guidence.
Just as l. Brown said in Detroit that team ball should play hard, smart, pass the ball quickly asap.
Steve plays hard, not selfish(IMO),but not smart. He should play with his mind and be pleased to co-core palyer with Yao.

ok. i'm glad you finally answered.

so, it seems to me that your dislike for bill walton is clouded and dictated by your fanaticism for yao ming. Yetti, listen...we are all yao ming fans here. bill walton is, too. but that doesn' t mean that yao is automatically the favorite for every award or poll possible.

bill walton praised yao ming all year long. he never stopped praising him - even during games that the rockets were not even playing in. yet, just because he didn't vote for yao for ROY he's somehow "deceptive"? bullsh*t. bill voted for amare because amare helped his team get into the playoffs. it's that simple. now, you can blame that on larry smith, like you normally do, but it really doesn' t matter. the truth is that the deciding factor was "who helped their team get the furthest". and the answer to that was amare stoudemire.

as for bill and his "exaggerations", it's all a schtick. i don't know if you've noticed, but when bill wants to put aside the hyperbole and talk x's and o's, he's about the sharpest commentator on tv or radio. if you don't like the exaggerations, you might as well stop watching nba basketball, because almost every announcer has their "schtick". if it isn't calvin and his cookies, it's hot rod hundley and his mile-a-minute commentary. if it isn't marv albert and his "yesssssss", it's ahmad rashad with jordan's **** in his mouth. if it isn't walt frazier with his S.A.T. recussitations, it's sean elliott with outlandish blatant spurs' homerism.

bottom line, Yetti: get over it.

Hakeem is not a Teacher of Basketball! It would be very difficult for him to continue to be dedicated to the Muslim Community and take on the dedication to the Job, needed by our Big Mans Coach. I would like to see him more involved with the Rockets but in a less demanding capacity.
Moses Malone is the Teacher and is still active in the sport, besides he wants the job very much and would be able to transform our Chineese finesse Center into an NBA Finesse Center. He could become the leading Center of the NBA, without exception!
