Early '90s Ross Perot as a Republican, he could've really dismantled Trump just laying into him like an overbearing dad. More sincerely Michael Bloomberg, Jerry Brown, maybe a Judd Gregg.
i just read up on Huntsman (didn't know much about him), and wow he seems like a candidate I would actually support. How the hell are we here? I have a feeling my mother would call him a secret liberal p***y or something though.
As a non-Trump Republican, I would have been ok with pretty much any of the other candidates. Obviously, people like Carson, Graham, or Cruz wouldn't be preferred either, but at least they would be somewhat normal candidates. On the Democrats' side, I actually would have liked to see Biden run.
I think you are right with the exception of Carson. He wouldn't have been as offensive to people as Trump, but he would have been way out there on another planet, that it wouldn't have been normal. It would have definitely been superior to Trump. Carson would have been crazy but mostly more harmless than Trump.
I agree Carson would have been relatively harmless, but his ignorance on virtually every issue and spinelessness was irritating to say the least.
I agree. I'm not a Carson supporter. I was just saying that I think either Cruz or Rubio would have been a more normal candidate. I don't think Carson would have been more normal, but just a different kind of strange than Trump.
I like Huntsmen and would support him. I'm also sad to see Bill Weld running as second fiddle to Gary Johnson in the Libertarian party. Bill Weld did a good job as a Republican governor of a blue state and I think is very much the pragmatic centrist ths country needs.
I think a Carson presidency might be more dangerous than Trump. It's not just his ignorance but that it's a willful ignorance. His frankly blind and unreflective faith in the face of a complex and dangerous world would cause a lot of problems.
I don't think that is different from Trump. Trump is willfully ignorant. But Carson at least seems like he could have a conversation with people who have ideas on the issues. Trump doesn't.
Huntsman was the only candidate Obama feared. Huntsman had way more experience in foreign affairs, and he knew more domestically, as well. I've said it for several years- and so have others- but the Republican voters missed their chance- I think Huntsman had a solid shot to beat Obama.
Probably bill gates and warren buffet , maybe Neil Tyson maybe someone who is highly intelligent and can understand how the world works. A top economist would be a good choice .
Trump is willfully ignorant because he is shallow and blinded by his own ego. Carson is willfully ignorant because of his religious views. Unlike many its not just accepting broad principles of faith to guide his life but obscure and out of date beliefs and interpretations. It's disturbingly similar to how the Taliban, DAESH and other radical Islamic movements embrace medieval beliefs and interpretations of their religion. Trump views the world first and foremost through himself. While that is narrow at the minimum self-preservation will lead to some level of rationalism. Someone that views the world primarily through a very narrow, rigid and esoteric religious view is far far more dangerous and could throw rationality completely away.
I love me some Corey Booker, but I couldn't ever imagine him having to make the daily kill/don't kill calls. I will not be surprised if Ms. Clinton chooses to only serve 1 term. Presidentin' is hard. Sort of like when I saw Mr. Obama speak in 2004 I got the same vibe when I saw Congressman Jim Himes speak. My fist impression was superstar, though I do not know much in depth yet.
I think his comments were that he waited too long to decide and would've been too far behind, money wise. I'm sure he was just mentally exhausted from the job and from losing his son so close to that time. Seems like there's one part of him that's kicking himself and the other that's just ready to ride off into the sunset. I wish he would've run.
