This is what I'm talking about. Click the image to go to the pricing page.

    <a href="http://www.nba.com/jazz/tickets/200203_Tickets-39019-112.html"><img src="http://www.nba.com/media/jazz/0203onsalenowbanner.gif" border=0></a>

The Utah Jazz, a perennial playoff team in their twilight, is selling tickets at half price.

Would you buy NOW if Rockets tickets were selling at $5/gm?

The best seats in the upper bowl are $25 at Utah!!! I would absolutely be all over that! I would buy 4 tickets!!!

Would someone mind giving me Les's email address so I could send him this link?

    seriously,

Post if you would buy $5 tickets! That is only $200 for an entire season. I'm definitely calling my Sales Rep, right now.

Call and ask: "Why is Utah selling tickets at 50%, but we are not." Now that is some fan appreciation for ya! Utah understands the importance of sell outs despite lower ticket prices. I love my Sells Reps, and they have been very kind to us this year, and the new head of Marketing seems like a keeper. But really, Les!!! let them sale your team at a lower price. The team deserves more fans. I'm convinced we make it to the playoffs last year had Les not raised ticket prices. Our homecourt win/loss sucked, and it was directly caused by Francis liking to play in front of crowds. He said that, didn't he??

I sent this Utah discount to my ticket buddies around me: they each said that this makes them want to never buy a Rockets ticket again. Both go to EVERY game. One is a 3yr vet, and the other is a 10yr vet.

First of all I feel really really disgusting for clicking on a Utah Jazz site?!?!?! Seriously.....:( :( :( :( :(

But HELL YES I would buy more season tix if there was some discount for actually purchasing the whole season. I dont understand what the heck the Rockets are thinking. I mean we have the FIFTH WORST record in the league, but yet our tix prices are the FOURTH HIGHEST! No wonder no one comes to the games.

Wow... I hate the Jazz, but since I actually live here... I'm thinking about doing that on PRINCIPLE....

At least I get to root for the Rockets twice a year, and I'd get to root against the Jazz 41 times for a bargain price! And in person!

    Woohooo!!!

    :)

btw Darkhorse...Looks like the playoff games are around 60% off in the upper bowl. $19 for best upper bowl...usually $55, I think.

And ah man,,,<a href="http://www.nba.com/media/sonics/YOURTEAM.PDF">Seattle is doing a 2 for 1 discount, as well.</a> including a ticket swapping policy, and 0% interest payments for 6 mos.

Jeff, is that the kind of ticket-swapping you were talking about at Kenneally's. That's pretty cool.

Fran Blinebury and Dale both rip the Rockets Team and Management, but neither of them bother to research things enough to see that Utah dropped prices by 50% after 19 playoff in a row with Stockton near retirement; Seattle is giving a 50% discount as Payton's time gets short....and what did we do? Raised prices after our first playoff miss when Barkley retires.

Come on, Houston journalists....Show us some of your Fan Appreciation and help us get this discount...write a useful column about ticket prices with some quotes. I want to know what Rudy, Francis and Les think about these Utah/Seattle discounts to keep fans in their seats! Can't 610 do some talk radio about this. I want the whole city to know Utah/Seattle dropped prices, and Les raised them.

Heck, for that price, I'd drive down from Austin every game.

    $200 would rock.

Don't Utah and Seattle both have new stadiums, too????

I think the marketing department should definitely do something similar - get people hooked while in the old building...

Nice to see that teams are starting to see the light, and realize that they actually have to compete  and market themselves, again.

The NBA has a much better product than the NFL, but is light years behind the NFL in 'packaging' and promotion.

Lower ticket prices are a good start. Now they need to promote more players, such as Nowitszki, Pierce, Allen, and Marion, to name a few.

Seriously, Rockets marketing and ticket pricing philosphy appears to defy reason. Someone severely screwed up the price elasticity calculation.

Is it possible that selling more tickets at a lower price does not benefit the Rockets? Are they excluded from or get a low cut from Arena concession sales, which would encourage them to gouge MORE money from FEWER ticket sales?

I would buy Season tickets in the upper bowl for half price in a heartbeat.

    davo,

let's assume they are totally excluded from concessions. Economics still proves that discounts can produce more profit on the tickets alone, considering how many season ticket holders they lost. Not to mention the benefits of not taking for granted that people will come back to a new stadium. It just does not pay to lose season ticket holders in droves.

But most importantly, we make the playoffs in 2001 if it wasn't for our miserable home court record vs the league. We came out lackadasical at home many times, because Les Alexander screwed up and didn't fill the arena enough. Francis even said how he liked playing on the road in arenas with more fans.

imo, Les Alexander is directly to blame for us missing the playoffs by 2 games, due to him losing all those season ticket holders for raising prices on us after Barkley retired.
