I did go to 2 1/2 hour mass yesterday. But I hope you know family plays a large part in the celebration of christmas
First off, my post wasn't meant to be a joke. I still think that was one of the dumbest posts of all time. Second of all, saying there would be no salvation is kind of a **** you to the other 4 billion people in the world. So hmm, idk d00d. You sound pretty douchey... Christmas is a time to rejoice with family and create memories/spread love and all that jazz. If no one remembers the "true" meaning of Christmas, but those qualities of it remain steadfast i wouldn't feel remorse at all.
I took a 4 hour flight and a 3 hour train ride to get home. I had to go to a Christmas Eve service that was cornier than ****. I had to listen to my step-dad explain to me that welfare was a socialist disease that was "Satan's version of charity" My family is kind of nuts. But I wouldn't want to be anywhere else right now.
Wow, you really figured out what my post was about. I wasn't trying to disrespect other religions, or beliefs. I was just trying to remind people what Christmas is, the celebration of the creation of our savoir. Whether you believe in him or not, because if it wasn't really about that the word Christ wouldn't be included in the name of this holiday. I posted this rant with bias towards my own religion which was wrong, I just wanted to say that today was the day to celebrate the birth of Christ. Honestly, we should be thankful for our families everyday, it shouldn't take late November to early January to be in these amazingly great full moods that the holidays gets people in. So let's just be thankful everyday forget about the holidays, celebrate Jesus' birthday whenever you wish if you are a christian (any day could be Christmas.) Again I apologize this thread ended up this way, I just wanted to recognize the birth of who I believe is our savior. I didn't mean anything to the atheists or those of other religions, I struggle with my faith daily, so I know where you guys are coming from, that is why I am actually apologizing. Thank you for everyone who posted in this thread, I know it looks ugly but it is really a blessing. I see this thread has become an outlet for people to express their beliefs, and I am thankful for it. Everyone should celebrate their holidays accordingly, I am embarrassed to see this thread head into this
I was responding to another poster, not you. You seem(ed) sincere in what you have posted and that is good. I wish you the best and hope your Christmas went well and you enjoyed it. You posted nothing inflammatory or ridiculous. Another poster did and I felt the right to openly disagree with him. Sorry that your thread got hijacked. I'll try and keep it to a minimum
I feel this incredible urge to apologize to about 15 people who actually replied to this thread...and to the 100's of others who just read it and thought, "bah." And also to Moe for the leanings of his crazy step-dad.
So which book in the New Testament does Christ say how and when and what to do for and on his birthday? As to that, where does it say to pray to me to get to Him?
I never said there wouldnt be any salvation to the other 4 billion...... I said Jesus came to provide Salvation to everyone. John 3:16 (New International Version, ©2010) 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:17 (New International Version, ©2010) 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. The choice is always there to believe or not to belive, I dont hold anything against others who dont believe it.... In the end God is the only judge... All I know is that I know what I have seen in with my own eyes when deciding to follow God...... Once more Christmas should be spent with family, its the most beautiful time of the year to do that and show others love and sacrifice.....
Why do you make the assumption I am the Christian here trying to make Christmas about Jesus only..... I am not the religious mind thinking gifts and santa are idols... Some out there are horrible and they are one of the reasons Christianity is such a turn off.... Why church is boring to others.. Why some feel condemned before they sit down at a church...... Joe, Christmas is not his birthday and you are right... The Bible never mentions it or how to celebrate it.... Lets just say Christmas is a wonderful time and that we should think about God a little... The way we all receive these materialistic gifts but he gave his son to also give us a gift..... He gave us himself to die on the cross and give us much more than what we deserve...... Where in the Bible does it say pray to Jesus to reach God ? John 14:6-7 (New International Version, ©2010) 6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know[a] my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.” Right there ^^^ In order to know him you must speak to him right? you cant just know someone without talkting to them.... Once again this verse John 3:16 (New International Version, ©2010) 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. If you believe in him you will speak to him.... You speak to him thru prayer... Matthew 6:33-34 (New International Version, ©2010) 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. If you are seeking him, then you are praying and trying to find him.... Here is a good one.. John 16:23-24 (New International Version, ©2010) 23 In that day you will no longer ask me anything. Very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. 24 Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete. Since we are talking about Jesu's death, he died so that we could have communication with God without a sacrifice like in the Old Testament... Instead Jesus was the sacrifice so that we could have direct contact with God... This is why "Christians" at least some pray in Jesus name.....
Never did I say Salvy.....but I will continue on from here. Every word of God is tested; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him. Do not add to His words Lest He reprove you, and you be proved a liar. (Pr 30:5,6) Kinda sounds like the bible should have stopped a the Old Testament. Prophets > Apostles (IMO)
as to my whole pray to Jesus to get to Him. Its a very widely accepted Christian belief. If you say otherwise, then congrats, your the first I've heard that from. I'm a raised Catholic but I didnt actually start looking into religion until I got out on my own.
