Retailers morphed the holiday?... agreed... and Christians morphed what was originally a pagan holiday. I don't care if it was a pagan or christian or simply an entirely made up holiday.... the point is, Christmas goes beyond religion... as far as "crapping on something that is truely meaningful to other people"... maybe you should read the original posters comments...
Easter is technically the Holiest Day in the Christian Calender Lent > Advent Merry Christmas and Happy birthday Jesus, even though you were most likely born in the summer, but hey props to the Romans trying to convert Pagans into Christianity by making his birth part of their pagan winter solstice rituals.
you realize your boy JC wasn't really "born" on December 25th right? Seriously, is it a requirement nowadays for hardcore religious Christians to be complete ignorant douchebags?
I don't find anything wrong with what the OP said...what is wrong with celebrating the birth of Christ, of remembering the true meaning behind today...that there's more today than just presents? Although I don't find anything wrong with wishing somebody a "Merry Christmas" either. After all, Christ is in the word, and when I'm wishing people a Merry Christmas, it encompasses both the spiritual aspect as well as the more general joy of the holidays too. Sure Christmas has gone beyond mere religion...I think this holiday, unlike Easter, really transcends cultures, beliefs, faiths. It's become a time of peace, joy, happiness, sharing, togetherness. And yes, plenty of evidence suggests that Jesus was not, in fact, born on this day. But, this is the day Christians celebrate his birth, and that shouldn't be forgotten amidst all the holiday shopping stampedes.
So you yourself admit that evidence points to Jesus not being born on this day. But then you say that we should remember this day because Christians celebrate this day as the day of Jesus' birth, even though evidence proves it otherwise.. Hmm makes no sense.
I love Christmas. I do not believe in the "reason for the season" or whatever, but the holidays bring back warm childhood memories. and i like Christmas trees. Face it, you don't have to be religious to have family time and exchange gifts. I could do without the crowded, showy church service anyways.
cause of a few d-bags here this thread probably should go in the D&D forum. Also the reason why anyone is alive and posting in this thread is most likely because their parents had some hot sex
lol, did you just make up that part about the X representing an unknown date? the X can be a symbol for a Cross. it has been used also in place of the Greek letter Chi, which can be shortened for Christ. your thread and subsequent posts are coming off as presumptuous and pompous. I don't, that's why I don't get upset when someone says Merry Christmas on facebook and get high and mighty on the message boards on Christmas Day. Merry X-Mas
<br> One of the dumbest posts of all time. OF ALL TIME! I'm not even Christian, but Merry Christmas to you all
I celebrate Christmas. I do not celebrate the birth of Christ. When I was a kid it was great receiving gifts, and there was nothing like waking up to all of those presents. Now it gives me just as much joy watching my kids play with all of their new toys, and spending time together.
The Crusades were a nice fun-friendly way to spread that message too. Am I right? Please. Religion does nothing but cause trouble. If people do not have the personal ethics and morals to prevent themselves from doing evil deeds, you really think God's message is going to change anything in them? I guess I'm picking on the wrong quote, because you aren't really doing much wrong here, and there's no malice in my statement towards you... but it's really the "if you're not christian; you'll burn in hell" ideal that really pisses me off. For a country built off freedom of religion, it has really gone the wrong way these past few centuries. I'm cool with people devoted to their religion, but don't bug me with your BS and try to convert me.

This may not technically be the day that Jesus was born, but it's the day that Christians recognize and celebrate his birth. I think this sums up my feelings quite well: http://www.victoriaadvocate.com/news/2010/dec/24/jp_revelations_122510_122682/?features&faith Personally, I'm fine with accepting historical fact because I don't feel it really contradicts anything about my faith. But I do get a little frustrated when some people in general try to exclude Christ all together from Christmas.
