I'm surprised most ppl think Millsap wouldn't be worth a below-max deal I think he'd fit in to the team like a hand in a glove. Sure he won't be flashy superstar like but he is always going to make the right play
While I'm sure there's some of that, these days a lot of the time, I think it will come down to whom James tells Daryl is coming. Let's call it the Miami effect, because you just have to realise that Dwyane went to Riley in 08 and told him about Bosh and Lebron. It's just one of those things the GM is never allowed to talk about.
With a superstar on the roster, the worst thing that could happen is we lacked the salary space when one comes free. Especially now where if you have a franchise player or one pre determined, the contract difference from Bird rights (e.g. Love) is so small he'd make more signing as a FA in Texas from the tax differences.
If history is a teacher, then it's somebody Harden played alongside at the Olympics. Andre Iguodala or Kevin Love.
These are never the guys you chase first. He' a mediocre talent and an unrestricted free agent this off-season. Therefore, he's a sort of backup, backup, backup plan if trying to sign sexier names to bigger contracts doesn't work out for whatever reason.
