Also, I notice that many posters whose posts lean to the left consider themselves 'independent'. You'll notice in that thread that half the voters voted independent.

Sounds correct to me. Liberals have no idea what they stand for, hence the large number of "independent" votes!

I'm saddened that this thread has become a poo- throwing contest. The question of who owned whom deserves ssome really serious discussion. Please, let's have another 5 pages, but keep it civil.

This thread has grown to a larger scale than just T_J owning BJ. All liberals have now been owned in this Epic.

I care about what I post here otherwise I wouldn't post here. Certainly if you look at all of the religion threads (not political religous threads) I do actively participate...just more interesting for me right now.

Usually I post stupid things but that is just part of my personality. I don't care about arguments and positions so much anymore because I see it all as idea exchange (which is interesting regardless of what it is or how it is exchanged) but not real communication...especially with they way things are debated these days in here. I don't know if I play above it because, as I said, so many of my posts are stupid, but I definitely conserve my energy. I have also cut back on my playful sarcasm/meanness because all it did was annoy people such as giddyup to a point that was beyond my intent. Again, so much is distorted in the digital word as opposed to real-world interaction.

Jorge has certainly tried with me. I never got pictures, though.

Didn't mean to imply that you are pathetic, I have only said that I don't understand why you play the game with his type. You say it is a personal weakness...that is fine and I understand. You are certainly honest and I apreciate that you are not one to put on airs as so many do around here.

I don't think I am on this bbs solely for ironic snark, by the way.

What are you talking about? Whoever doesn't agree with the current administration is obviously a liberal.

this is so true - it has basically come down to you are either a 1) bush supporter who fully supports everything the president does or 2) troop-hating, christmas hating, terrorist supporting liberal. there is no middle ground anymore.

i know plenty of conservatives who dont like bush. they have really been starting to come out of the woodworks over the last couple years. even my 85 year old grandparents who fully supported bush now want him impeached. i couldnt believe when my grandpa, who served in WWII, korea and vietnam said he should be locked up.

the funny thing is that when it comes to the economy, bush is the biggest fiscal liberal this country has ever had. how many spending bills has he vetoed in 5 years? ZERO. what a true conservative

but at least the queers wont be gettin' married, right?

I think Pirc1 is right. The term Liberal and Conservative are very narrowly defined here essentially to who agrees with the invasion of Iraq and who doesn't. From seeing the variety of threads and posts its far more complicated than that and it makes sense that most posters rigthfully classify themselves as independent.

For instance many posters here are Republicans who don't agree with the Admin's war and spending policies but also disagree with classic Dem social and fiscal policies. There are a few posters who agree with the invasion but don't care so much for the social policies of the Admin..

There are also many issues that completely overturn the idea of liberal or conservative group think. I noted this on the the last Evolution / ID thread that the debate was almost exclusively between posters who are against the invasion of Iraq.

Most of the posters on this forum are far more complicated in their views than merely Liberal / Democrat or Conservative / Republican.

It should also be noted from the poll: ClutchFans Political Spectrum Poll

There are a large number of people who rarely, if ever, post in the D&D. They vote in the polls though.

If you bother to look at the poll results, liberals outnumber conservatives in every group and overall by a margin of 36-21. While certainly not 5-1, that is a significant majority. That doesn't consider who posts regularly though, nor do people's self-identifications necessarily represent how others view them. For example, I don't know how many D&D posters would classify me as a liberal or andymoon and vlaurelio as moderates.

I find the poll pretty inaccurate. For example, although I know basso has liberal views on subjects like gay marriage, for him to self-describe himself as an "independent liberal," when he is such an avid Bush supporter, is (in my opinion, basso... not trying to pick on you, but you jumped put there on the poll) ludicrous. Any thinking liberal minded individual would sooner dance on the hot coals of hell than see George W. Bush appointing anyone to the Supreme Court for life, and for other lifetime Federal judicial appointments. Those judges will be making a conservative impact in all areas in this country long after Bush is out of office.

    Keep D&D Civil.

Some here are confused that not supporting the presidency of G.W. Bush somehow equals liberalism.

This is where the 5 - 1 skew number derives ~ if you look at Bush's current approval rating this number is of course in the general ballpark of non-supporters (5) vs. the followers (1).
