I just saw a article that said they are going to have mandarin chinese nba.com website up for voting. So that is why Dallas Wang Z. never got in, plus he is not half as popular. So what I see hapening given at least if he plays decently I would think is he would get voted in. With the Chinese vote. A good example of his popularity, today I went to a Barnes and Noble in Austin to get the Sports Illustrated and it was sold out. So then before I picked up my girlfriend from work at Bed Bath and Beyond I went by Borders (another bookstore) and that place was sold out to. And it looked like to me that it was the only magazine sold out. So that shows his popularity over here also.

So i think if they get that Chinese web site up there is a very good chance that he will get voted in. Think about everyone, there are over 2 billion people there, and about 300 million ppl here. That is a very big diffrence.

The only bad thing about that is if he doesnt really deserve it, perhaps it will make a lot of ppl jealous of him. He He oh well...
    :p

    You guys are forgetting this:

For every China fan that votes Ming as the starting C, probably half of them will vote for Steve as the starting PG.

    That's impact #1.

Then, remember how much Steve played before the All Star break? Nothing. Inshallah, he's healthy and plays most, if not all, the games before the All Star break.

    That's impact #2.

Then, of course, there's the media coverage that our team gets from having the first foreign #1 pick (he is, isn't he?). Lots of outsiders will watch Rockets games just to see how Ming is doing, and Francis will naturally stand out.

    That's impact #3.

Then, there's the fact that we'll be a playoff team, and there will be even more media coverage surrounding the "sleepers" or "surprises" of the West. Basically, we'll be winning.

    That's #4.

Finally, there's the fact that Steve will look better on D, he'll have more scorers to pass to, he'll just GENERALLY play better because he's a PG that just finished his 3rd season.

    #5.

It's really shocking that Steve made it last year. The only thing that will stop Steve from having that spot down is injury.

steve is almost a lock. last year we sucked ass and he got voted in. if we're playing like a playoff team than steve is a lock and maybe one other player.

rc cola made a good point about wally last year kind of sneaking in. mobley can do the same though i think if ming plays well he gets the nudge due to the lack of centers. eddie will eventually be a perennial all-star.

Yeah, NBA.com has a little section for voting and I think they don't start till later. I'm sure the 1st day you can vote, there will be a thread reminding us all to vote.

Let's start a campaign where everybody in China votes for the Rockets. Steve/Cat/Yao Ming/EG/Rice. They start the game! :D

this is actually a good point.

I'm am going to make a couple of assumptions here, anyone with facts to backup/disprove them, please speak up.

In previous years, there wasn't a native language website that the Chinese could go to vote at, so I would assume that the average basketball fan in China wouldn't bother with All-Star voting.

Also, Wang's entry into the NBA wasn't as publicized as Yao Ming's has been. With all the attendant publicity surrounding the draft and Yao Ming this year, don't you figure that the amount of interest among the "average" Chinese basketball fan would have increased this year?

Finally, has the increased openness of the Chinese economic system led to an increase in internet use among the Chinese people?

If the answer to the last two points are yes, then it is only reasnable to assume that there will be a LARGE increase in fan participation in the all-star balloting. This *could* increase the chances Yao Ming has to be voted in as a rookie (..as much as it would gall people like Oski..;))
Factor in any amount of noteworthy play on Yao Ming's part this year, and I think he actually has a good chance of making it..

I am not saying they are better or Cuttino is better but I think excluding Kobe you are talking about Finley and Wally Z with Bonzi and Derek Anderson in contention I guess.

If Yao gets 30+ minutes a game he will put up the numbers to be an All Star at center: 13 pts 9 boards 3-4 blocks 3-4 assists FG60% FT85%

none of the guys you mentioned are better than cat. it's amazing when you think about it, but cat might be the 2nd best shooting guard in the west.

i'd love for someone to tell me who is "definitely" better.

Not very likely, especially after the season Bibby had as well as his team making it so far. He may end up 3rd in voting behind Nash as well.

Jason Richardson is the only non-Kobe SG in the West who you can convince me is better that Cat.

For starters, Bibby didn't have a great season. He made it to the Western conference finals, but it wasn't until the playoffs that he started playing all that well.

Steve was an All Star last year, had better stats throughout the year and played in pain much of the year. Take a healthy Steve and match him with a 7'5" media attention getter and you've got yourself one heck of an all star candidate this year!
