LOVE it. If it's TRUE, then why is it "incredibly offensive"? What do people in River Oaks have to do with the anti-begging campaign? I usually don't get approached for handouts by River Oaks residents while I'm gassing my car up on TC Jester... Besides, that would have been one weird sounding commercial: "Please do not give money to homeless beggers. Along with the residents of River Oaks, many of them have mental issues and drug and alcohol addictions. Please do not give money to homeless beggers."
A 100% mandatory smoking ban is pretty fascist, but I will support him if he toughens up on the true polluters of this city.
I don't live in Houston, but if he can outlaw Titans fans, I'll get an apartment there just so I can vote for him.

The rate of serious mental illness among the homeless far outpaces that of society as a whole, and of any other demographic. And I'm sorry, but homelessness & panhandling in public is hardly "a private matter". Every city government in America has statutes to govern this. A public awareness & education campaign is a logical offshoot of that. Did the city even buy the ads, or were they part of the stations' mandatory public service requirement? What was the cost to the city? What a bizarre thing to rant about.
Exactly... I live in Spring and cannot vote for the man, so I can't complain. FFB, I think the guy is ok, but I did think that the begger thing was stupid. I felt like he was talk down to the city, like they haven't a clue. The wonderful thing is that if you keep your vehicle safe and updated and you follow the rules, you shouldn't get pulled over. I'm not going to put all the increased crime on him, yet. But I do expect it to come down soon. He's a harmless smeegle that's looking after his precious.
That would be the coolest thing ever. I would even vote for prohibition if it somehow helped to get it passed.
haha...you gotta love a poll in which the results are the exact opposite of what the thread starter wanted... I tell ya, I just love those Muslim extremist suicide bombers...who's with me?
speaking of beggars, last week i was in midtown getting a bowl of pho. as we were walking to my car, i see a guy (fairly neatly dressed) urinating right on the walls of the store in plain view for anyone who drove int the parking lot. it so happens that my car is right in front of him. so i'm there chitchatting, he zips up, turns to me and ask "do you have any change?" "No." "I'm not a bum!" "No man, I don't have any change." "You think I'm a bum. I'm not a bum!" awkward stare and silence ensues "I don't have change." he finally walked away and started on some other poor sap. i really wanted to say, "you were pissing on the walls and now you're asking me for money. how does that not make you a bum?" but i didnt' really want to get into a pissing match with him. *rimshot* that is a true story though
Pho Saigon is at Milam and Drew. Van Loc is at Milam and Anita. Yes I am a Vietnamese food junkie. Somebody spike me up!
Having a real mayor instead of Brown has been a godsend. What exactly did Brown do, aside from giving out kickback contracts for highway construction and go on endless "city ambassador" (read: paid vacation) trips? City Council didn't ever see him, let alone get things done with him. At least he has an active interest in improving the city, whether or not his vision regarding that coincides with your own. Evan
I voted for option #1 to help out my boy - the Fat b*stard out! Now I am going to go contact Jenna and some of her buddies to see if they can register and vote in this thread. Don't worry, Fatty, the cavalry is coming to your rescue!
He doesn't. According to HCAD, he & his wife have owned a home right outside the loop in Memorial since 1997.
