Steven Tyler out doing Carrie Underwood on her own song! Notice how the crowd doesn't stand until he comes out <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/2OBCMdpGZz4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Rock>Country
I missed this, but Johnny Reid is pretty good and he's Scottish. He's not that country, and he started playing in Canada, but he is kind of a country artist emerging from Europe. That being said, Edmonton's country music scene (it calls itself Nashville North) is awful. Less talent, and even more bubblegum lyrics.
I like the older '50s and '60s country like Tammy Wynette, Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, George Strait, etc. Out of the "newer" artists, I like Garth Brooks, Carrie, Alan Jackson.
I know its more bluegrass than country..and technically southern gospel..but I'm really started to dig The Isaacs.. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Lu8tc50SZ3A" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> I enjoy their (the original) version of "I'm Gonna Love You Through it" much more than Martina McBride... <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/vi9KI2eGtj8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I like country from like the 70's, 80's, 90's...some of today's stuff is pop, but every once in a while there'll be a good song...
