He's not eligible to be sent to the D-League. It's either because he's been in the league too long (3rd year) or played too many games (143). It's something like that.
GG only is trainnig with teammates to import his basketball IQ and basic action primarily. If he can play well on the court, he will be one of our future.
we probably won't do anything with him now. we are too busy and too caught with the rest of the team than spending time watching and coaching GG. He will however be under the microscope in offseason and preseason. I see that we at least sign him for another yr or two. remember how we discredited landry and signed him for one year only?? I am still not sure if that mishap will come back and bite us in the rear down the road. GG can be a good player one day.
Incorrect you can always play in the d-league, many veterans go down there or play there for years. Gerald, unfortunately, has all-star talent and a high schooler's work ethic. But, he definately has the tools to be a good NBA player if he puts his mind to it. He is pretty much a taller, more atheletic version of J.R. Smith, a little bit less of a 3 point shooter but a better finisher. He is without question a better player than Bobby Jones and probably Justin Williams but we don't need him right now. If he plays he's taking minutes away from our perimeter players who have been playing great, rafer, tmac, battier, head. With that said, I want to see him play. In garbage time he could definately entertain us enough to stay interested in those Pacer blowout games.
Also, me and my brother wanted to start a chant like the one we had for Steve Francis at the beginning of the season but not for him to play over anyone. We did it at the Pacers game. I just want to see him dunk on somebody in garbage time. Is that too much to ask? So, instead of we want Steve... We want Green!!We want Green!!We want Green!!We want Green!!
He's an unrestricted free agent after the season. My bet is that Morey's keeping him off the court to keep his next contract lower. Plus the chemistry thing we have now.
Right after the trade was made, Morey was on the radio saying that Green was not eligible to go to the D league. Take that for what its worth.
There is a difference between playing in the d-league and being ASSIGNED to the d-league while on an NBA team. Green has played in the NBA too long to be eligible to go down. You have to be a frosh or soph and you only get to go down and up 3 times (*I may be wrong about this, it could be 5, but there is a limitation) per season. If we waived him and he went down to play, then yes, he can play as long as he wants. But if he's on our roster he can't go down.
D00ds, it's not about the ''cool'' dunks. If we can win games without Green, why should we use him? Cuz of his dunks?
Yeah, you're right. He can no longer be assigned but he can play if he isn't on our roster anymore, I thought the previous poster was trying to say no one could play in the d-league after their a veteran. It wouldn't help him anyways because he is too atheletic for those guys. From what I remember, he played pretty well in the d-league when he went down for the Celtics but he is too physically gifted for it to help him. He wasn't in the Kobe role but he was shooting a high percentage strictly from shooting 3s with his above average height for a 2 and getting around guys with his insane atheleticism. Those things don't come so easy in the NBA. He won't get better in the nbdl, he needs game time that he probably won't get here.
Adelman kept Carl Landry planted on the bench or in street clothes until he proved himself in practices. IMO that's what he is doing with Green. Also, since Green is not going to be a major contributor this year, why would the Rockets trot him out, show him off and thus encourage FA bids by other teams?
Green can't be sent down to D-League. He's a 3rd year pro, and only players with less than 2 years experience can be sent down.
We don't want Green in to win games just to provide entertainment when the game is won. He is better than alot people think he just didn't care when he was on bad young teams. I think he's a wild card like Stephen Jackson and similar players. He can play when he's motivated.
Have you ever been to the summer league and watch how hard they play against each other in a HOT gym. Let me remind you that's the place where Dream, Moses Malone, Clyde, Mario, Robert Horry, Penny Hardaway, TJ Ford, Big Baby, etc.. an the list goes on of pros that developed their games in Fonde. Now I'm beginning to question your Rocket knowledge.
Well if it doesn't pan out, I guess GG will be playing in the Euroleague which would probably freak him out since he's still got the mind of a high school kid.
