So I was on the third floor at the Library just bumping around...yeah...

and I was in the area where they had the books on sports and games.

I browsed around some books, and saw a book by John Starks. My first initial thought was, what the hell does this guy have to say? I forgot how many pages it was. I could sum up his career.

I was a scrub from Oklahoma. And then I got good with the Knicks. Hakeem blocked my shot, and the next game I played I was never the same. Hell, I was never the same player for the rest of my career. I now coach a minor league basketball team. The end.

I read the inside cover page of the book.

You can read it here at amazon.

    I will paraphrase some passages.

Okay, first of all, that Dunk was not on Michael Jordan. He dunked on Horace Grant.

The second part, yeah, that's true. He sucked in game seven.

I'll probably read it when I get the chance.

I think Starks had a pretty rough life and I don't think his path to the NBA was all that easy. Wasn't he stocking groceries before going into the NBA?

It wasn't really "on" anyone, but, both MJ and Ho Grant came over on weakside help and Starks threw it down HARD. It was a great play really.

Since when did stocking groceries equate to a rough life?

Man, how many careers did the championship Rockets ruin with ego-crushing victories? Nick Anderson, John Starks, who else? :)

I never said that, I was referring to his childhood, which I may have not mentioned but I didn't say his stocking groceries equated to a rough life. I did say it equated to his not having an easy path to the NBA.

Shouldn't this thread be called "Does anyone CARE that John Starks has a book?"

I'll repeat, I didn't say his life was bad because he stocked groceries. That's what he did before going into the NBA.

I was referring to his childhood. I apologize for the misunderstanding.

In case anyone actually cares, I bought the book (for my brother--a HUGE Knicks fan--espically when Starks played, that was his favorite player). I'll give it a read, let you know. It might not be bad. I can't wait to read about what he thinks about JVG, the Dunk, Hakeem's block, and going 2-18.

I don't know why I still remember, but John Starks lost a nut.

Who knows, had Hakeem not made an incredible play, maybe Starks is revered like we do Elie after his kiss of death shot. Elie and Starks had a lot in common, I had no ill will towards Starks when not competing against the Rockets and generally routed for him. Guys like Elie and Starks came closer to earning their pay checks than most NBA players.
