I went last year and it was a real good show. They showed halo 3 clips (before it came out) and then played the songs to it. also had a cool intermission where a guy played frogger on a huge projecter. yea, it was hoping theyd play some street fighter songs, or megaman songs but capcom didnt let them play them i guess. they did however play a huge collection of all the final fantasy songs. they played the kefka song from 6, stuff from 4, the sephiroth song, stuff from 8 and 9. yeah it was pretty badass actually. very entertaining show.
I like the music from Hitman series especially the orchestra. I think it is from some eastern european country. Shadow of the Closssus is also very nice and soothing.
And yet, his threads usually get tons of responses. And my threads I start on games always seem to go for at least 5 pages. ...proving that we have a lot of people on this board who are in touch with their inner nerd.
My favorite used to be Nobuo Uematsu, although that isn't the case anymore. I still really like him, but he hasn't really made much these days, and I like the older stuff (SNES/PS1 era) a bit more than some of his newer stuff. I'm not even sure if he is doing much on the new FF13 games, which is a bit disappointing (although the music in the trailers has been great, whether it was by him or someone else). Akira Yamaoka has taken over the #1 spot for me. He's done all the SH music (AFAIK), and I love just about all of them (seems to be getting better too). A new SH soundtrack is pretty much the only reason why I'm looking forward to SH5. I think he was also in charge of the sound design in the games, which I didn't know about until recently. Some favorites (we need more of these in this thread): Spoiler <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/qKPOGJvhAII&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/qKPOGJvhAII&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/-S9HU1WS7ko&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/-S9HU1WS7ko&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/1c5nDHhUyXg&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/1c5nDHhUyXg&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/EI-_emIGqr0&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/EI-_emIGqr0&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Sy0_aJ9Gruc&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Sy0_aJ9Gruc&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> Yes, this thread was just an excuse to post SH music from Youtube. Yasunori Mitsuda is up there, probably right after Uematsu.
Double Dragon There some band that does cover music from video games. Someone, go find it. That **** sounds waaaaaaaaaaaay too awesome.
Yasunori Mitsuda for me, and it's not even close. He composed my two favorite game soundtracks: Chrono Cross and Xenogears. Maybe I was too young at the time, but I can't remember any memorable tunes from the old NES/SNES days(never had a Sega). This is surprising, since I usually play those classic games like Street Fighter and Mario games over and over. You'd think I'd know how to hum those tunes.

1. If you obsessively post about Street Fighter, you give up the right to use "nerdy" as an insult. 2. Hate to break it to you, but the music in Street Fighter just ain't that good. Sorry. You want a great fighting game with great music, go play any Guilty Gear X game. Their in-game music is *actual* guitar-heavy rock music... no fan re-makes necessary: <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/hCl1kf699X8&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/hCl1kf699X8&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
