I just think it would be interesting to see. I don’t have an answer to it. To say racial bias doesn’t exist is misrepresenting the truth. There are those who do and those who don’t. I would wager people would root for him as a dynamic and exciting player and someone they racially and culturally can relate to . Nothing necessarily wrong with that. Same reason Turkish fans root for Sengun or Chinese fans with Yao or Black people rooting for Joe Louis the 1930’s boxer or Italians with Yankee great Joe Dimaggio. The bias comes in when you give this favorite player you identify with more patience, more grace, more civility than other players who you are more quick to demonize, hate, or criticize. When you can see no wrong or flaw with your player due to this strong affinity and attachment on the basis of racial and cultural identity then that’s bias.
Very reasonable take on a tough subject. I think the wrestling away of the mainstream medias stranglehold on the cultural conversation is the best thing that has come out of this election season. Young Americans, who for the most part, don't have the same racial baggage that older people do, are getting into the conversation and understanding that culture is not what divides us, it is the long established political hierarchy. Positive re-inforcement of the advantage of cultural diversity is much more powerful than the racial divisions propagated by a corrupt media and both political parties. Sports brings us together more than many other aspects of modern society and it pains me that people on this forum sometimes revert to their baser instincts.
So you basically repeated what I already stated in my original post days ago, bringing no unique perspective of your own? This is also just a fact. If you’re in your feelings about this that’s on you to resolve. Anyway, ignoring you and getting back to the topic. I’m actually shocked Jalen doesn’t have more votes. I assumed he would be a lot of casuals favorite Rocket since he’s sort of been the “face” of the franchise since he was drafted and has a flashier game that is attractive to watch when he’s on. It’s cool to see the pulse of Clutchfans basically knows who the core three are. I also showed the poll to a non-Rockets friend and he was shocked Fred and Dillon had zero votes (now one a piece). I explained that they have a ton of love in the comments but probably won’t get votes as THE favorites because they are transplants who found their identities elsewhere and it’s hard to compete with homegrown talent you get to watch grow up.
Voted Amen but it's a tossup amongst him and Sengun. Tari closely following. Those are the 3 who I'd be most hesitant to trade.
There's not a lot of casuals who spend time posting on a teams fan forum, so most people's favorite players will be the players who are playing the best. In this case it's alpi, amen, and tari. Even though FVV is also one of our best/most important players he's not a homegrown guy and people don't see him as a long term rocket (plus he's not that exciting). I think if you go and ask a random sample of 100 casual basketball fans who the rockets best player is though i would be you'd get at least 50 that say jalen
