I’m not asking who the franchise player is. I’m not asking who the best player is. I’m simply asking who your favorite Houston Rocket is (right now) and would love to know why. And it may be they are your favorite because you view them as the franchise player or best player. Or, you might love their work ethic, their potential, their personality, their leadership, or their stache (why not?). I know there are vocal minorities who post a lot for “their guy” but would love to get a pulse on the board as a whole. In the spirit of Thanksgiving we have a lot to be grateful for as Rockets fans, and it’s great to have so many legitimate options to choose from.
To answer my own question, 1a and b for me are the terror twins. But, I give the nod to Amen for a couple reasons. The biggest is he can and has legitimately played and guarded all 5 positions. A true Swiss Army knife off the bench who can sub in for any guy who is having an off night, step into their position and help close out games. That is a championship piece and if our identity right now is “by committee” then he is invaluable. I love his speed and athleticism. I love his efficiency and decision making. And I really love the fact that he is so young and has a drive to improve. I’m excited to hand the keys to Amen when/if we part ways with Fred and ecstatic to watch this kid grow up on this team. Best part is I had this guy pegged as a bust when we drafted him. I felt there’s no way this kid with a busted jump shot putting up inflated stats in a fake league playing against high school kids half his size could make it as a guard in the NBA. I was so bummed we missed out on Scoot who everyone touted as the second coming (I don’t watch non-NBA ball to be fair). It’s crazy that in one year, Amen went from that to my favorite Houston Rocket. I just love watching him play.
It is generic but I was one of the early ones on the Alpe - Alpee wagon.......hard to jump off. Also I learned a ton about the Turkish culture, and yeah, it is fun, in Europe normally Turkish immigrants are treated with prejudice but a person like Alpe can change that. You have the dark hair Turks, then the brown haired ones, and the blond Turks. Diverse as hell.
I voted Tari, but I love them all. All the guys seem to be great teammates and good friends. I get filled with joy when any of them play well, our vets Fred and Dillon included. They are the reason I joined this board in the first place: two underrated players who were scapegoated by their former teams, coming to Houston and setting culture for young guys to flourish. This squad has a bright future ahead of them if the front office remains patient.
Tari, but love watching Amen play the most. His on ball defense is just that good. I like watching defense more than offense, hence my love for 90s basketball with centers blocking things left and right, hand checking and tough back and forth action.
there's something about Amen real pro all business high IQ good head on his shoulders shooting is his biggest weakness but at least he's aware of it don't shoot to much and work on improving it
LOL, some of the Sengunatics are gonna spaz at the results. Amen became my favorite player early last season.
Sengun because he plays with such high bball IQ and heart, followed very closely by Amen and Tari. I still believe in Reed if he can get going but probably not this year. Cam was fun at first but after the all star break last year he fell off the wagon and turned into a scrub, hoping he gets his mojo back. Bari is growing on me this season. JG has burned me too many times but I sincerely hope he puts it all together because when he is rolling he is unstoppable. Shoutout to the vets, FVV and Brooks, they turned the culture around.
