Some may think that but (imo) the supporting cast is always more interesting. Maxwell, Horry, Elie, Cassell, Battier, Artest, AB, Landry, Bullard, Brooks, Sura, Thorpe, Reid, McCray, Peterson, etc. Hakeem is one of the greatest players but not one of my favorites.
I follow the NBA again because of JLin, but I have to vote for Hakeem!! I remember when I was a kid, I drove my bicycle down to my uncles House just to watch the Rockets in their 2 Championship Years! It was awesome! Yes, I have to watch at my Uncle's to talk basketball because sadly my father and my brother are not basketball fans.
If Lin will bring championship to the Rockets 2x on his 3yrs in the Team, I might change allegiance. But for now, Best Rockets of ALL time goes to Hakeem!!!
I first supported the Rockets during the days of Hakeem, Clyde and Barkley. But I voted Lin because of how Lin inspires me. Those 3 guys were superstars and I loved watching them play. But they never made me feel like I can go out there and do something special for myself.
Drexler's my guy, my first basketball memory is of the '95 team and I just loved his style of play as a kid. Still influences me to love any guard who is versatile enough to be a solid passer, rebounder and pick up steals. Dream is obviously the greatest Rocket ever, and comes in at #2. Bob Sura is #3. Yeah, I don't care what you think of that pick.
Totally agree. With the first half. The supporting cast is more interesting, if for no other reason than because they have lower expectations, which are obviously easier to exceed. But Olajuwon is still my favorite player. 3830 career blocks? Mutombo couldn't beat that. Shaq couldn't. Duncan won't. Howard would have to play 22 seasons without slowing down (very, very unlikely). That's something that Rockets fans will always (knock on wood) have, like our modern era win streak (knock on wood). That's better than a championship as far as I'm concerned! (says the guy whose franchise is approaching two full decades without one )
If you were old enough to witness the Hakeem era you would know why he is held in high regard as a lot of people's favorite player. I remember everyone on the playground growing up trying to be like Mike with their tounges hanging out on the bball court, but I was trying to perfect the dream shake. ahhh The good ol days...
You are right. I believe the internet age is ruled by the young guys, and ClutchFans is no exception. For young guys, Olajuwon and Drexler are just names, or some legends living in vague video clips, at most. They are just like Larry Bird to them. Having them as favorites? How come? But Yao, T-mac, Lin, and Harden are different. Young guys may have watched them play games, or even had sighting of them on the street. They are real persons to them, after all. So the result in a favorite player voting is obvious. For those fans who do not want to see Lin winning the poll, you can live in your fond memories and cherish these memories, but let others live in the reality. As for me, I am too old to have much interest in this kind of fun play. Let the young guys rule. And I am watching with a
Yao and Lin are splitting the Chinese vote! Apparently, it's "What have you done for me lately, Yao?!" I can understand Lin getting votes (it's a favorite player vote, anyhow), but how can Lin beat Yao?
So far I have the only vote for Calvin Murphy; he was just one-of-a-kind and defied the odds. Runner up would be Hakeem with Moses in third.
Garbage time? The kid is our starter. Worst definition I've read from Urban Dictionary, and that is saying a lot. It is too bias. Probably made by a LOH. (-.-)
