I understand what you're saying and the labels shouldn't be that important but for some reason any time an atheist does something positive people either try to discredit him/her or re-define that person as an agnostic. The fact is that Sagan, by his own words, fit perfectly into the definition of an atheist whether he or you would label him otherwise.
