Lucas was by far the superior PG of those 4 & I feel that Leavell was a much better defender than Smith.

Maxwell was fun to watch defensively, but he had mental problems. Purvis Short had a beautiful rainbow shot that, more often than not, found it's way into the basket.

As for Sampson versus Barkley; at the time they were Rockets, Sampson was much more entertaining & effective than Barkley. Barkley was just looking for a ring & didn't really improve the team. However, he was a great interview.

How can you possibly list Leavell and Lucas and Floyd and Sampson when you obviously never saw them play (since you obviously have to be twelve years old to post here)? Are you just trying to be cool and unique or is Texas Stoke an idiot? Enquiring minds want to know.

By the way...Kenny "the Jet" Smith was given that name by Ernie Johnson on TNT after Smith retired. I've never heard him called that when he was playing (unless it was a Tar Heel nickname?). There was a reason for that. He did NOT deserve a nickname. It's not like the guy is an HOFer like "Cylde the Glyde" or "the Dream."

True, he was a soild PG that didn't turn the ball over, could hit the 3 and his FTs. Oh, and he gave the ball to Hakeem! :) Kenny was the ultimate team player. Kenny became "cocky" after he retired. I'm sure Hakeem gets a kick out of it (they let Kenny brag about himself).

As far as Lucas. He was a excellent PG prospect! Great floor leader. Our best ever at running the court. But he had a shortened career (drugs).

    -----short bio-------
Lucas began his 14-year NBA playing career during the 1976-77 season. He was the first overall selection in the 1976 NBA Draft by the Houston Rockets. Lucas played for six different teams in his career, including Houston, Golden State, Washington, San Antonio, Milwaukee and Seattle. He was named to the NBA All-Rookie team in 1977 after averaging 11.1 ppg on .477 (388-814) FG% with 5.6 apg for the Rockets. Lucas was signed by the Cavaliers on August 29, 1983, but was waived on September 21 prior to the start of the season. In 1983-84 with San Antonio, he averaged a career-best 10.7 apg in 63 games and set an NBA record for assists in one quarter with 14 assists in the second quarter vs. Denver on April 15. Lucas averaged a career-high 17.5 ppg on .457 (285-624) FG% in 43 games for Milwaukee in 1986-87. In 928 career NBA games, Lucas averaged 10.7 ppg with 7.0 apg and is currently in 17th place among the NBA all-time assist leaders (6,454). He also played in 45 playoff contests and averaged 11.2 ppg on .451 (198-439) FG%, including a career-high 15.6 ppg in 12 postseason games for the Bucks in 1987.

Lucas is a 1976 graduate of the University of Maryland where he earned All-America honors in 1975 and 1976.

Ahhhh......., if I could only be 12 again & still know what I know now. At almost 4 times the age requirement you just mentioned, I can safely say that I have seen each of the players I listed in action.

As for being cool & unique, well......., I think I'm cool :D & each one of us is unique in his or her own way. So....., no, I'm not trying to be cool & unique. I AM cool & unique. :D

I hope this satisfies your inquiry.

Read up the thread a bit, Hot Todd. I was really just using your post as an excuse to get Texas Stroke back here to eat his crow.

I'm sure you are cool and I know for sure you're unique. No one else I've ever met spends as much time running trades through Real GM. Keep on keepin on...

    5: Olajuwon
    4: Barkley
3: Ellie or Walt Williams (Rockets haven't had many at this position)
    2: Drexler > Mobley
    1: Francis

How can a Rocket fan honestly put Yao ahead of Dream?

The name of the thread is "favorite Rockets", not best, so this gives all of us the ability to indulge personal preferences, and I think we should. I'll try to explain some of mine, but understand, all I'm telling you is why I like 'em.

    Center: Moses and Hakeem.

Choosing between these two is like choosing between absolutes. Both of these guys were the best in the game at their peak. The younger guys might not remember the way Moses could sweep the boards of rebounds, or just how versatile he was on offense. As an old man, he lost some of that, but it was nothing in his prime for him to step out to the 20 foot line and drain jumpers.

Hakeem. I was in grad school at Rice when he was a freshman at U of H. Watching this guy's career has been one of the real joys of my life. I don't think Hakeem's all round offensive game was as good as Moses's (excepting perhaps his 4 best offensive years), or that he was as good a rebounder, but I've never seen a center so quick and mobile.

Power Forward: Ralph, Barkley, and Otis Thorpe.

In a list of all times, Elvin Hayes would be here, but Elvin's damage was done mostly with the Washington Bullets. Course, the same can be said of Sir Charles, but you have to tip your hat to CB for taking a 1 million dollar paycheck to try and win a championship.

Ralph was underappreciated when he was here, and it wa sick to lose him to Golden State for Sleepy Floyd. I would have loved to have seen what would have happened if we could have kept him.

Thorpe.. in his prime, a stud of a player. Couldn't shoot worth a darn, but it seemed as if bullets would bounce off him.

    Small Forward: Robert Reid

I'm sticking him here, even though he seemed to play a little of everything for this team from 1 to 3. The thing that won me to this guy was his defense.. at 6' 7", he was tall enough to match up with "Magic" Johnson, and play him defensively.

    Shooting Guard: Clyde Drexler

They never should have let him go to Portland. Yeah, his shot wasn't perfect, but you can't coach that kind of speed.

Point Guard: Sam Cassell, Michael Dunleavy

Sam, cause everyone needs a little ET in their lives. And why Michael? For those who remember, he single handedly won a finals game versus Boston 24 or so years ago.

Don't think this is the best Rockets team. It's just one I *like*.

    David.

ooooooh stung me! you got me there. You are really cool and unique now. ; ) I can understand you wanting to put Elvin Hayes out there, because you liked the commercial.. that was a great commercial.. but don't take us too far down your Hazey street of non-conformity by putting Calvin before Clyde.

on the serious tip, I was drunk that night and kinda fishing for a response because I wanted to talk basketball with someone.
