I assumed people were smart enough to understand that I was talking about the pick and roll. I won't make that mistake in your case again.
by definition if you are shooting a jumper after running pick and roll then you didn't roll or you didn't get to the rim if you did roll. I'm not talking about pick and pop..which I hate. However with this bunch I am actually wondering if running pick and pop with TJones or DMo is actually our best offensive option against the Thunder.
The main reason we are so iso heavy is because of this. Good teams like OKC, they're gonna hedge the ball handler and let Asik go because they are wanting Harden and Lin to give it up to Asik. They know they can destroy Asik with a help defender coming at him after he catches the ball because he's gonna bring it down and hesitate all the way into a low crouch. Harden knows this. That's why he don't wanna run that play with Asik. He don't wanna pile up more turnovers. Guys our big rollers are baaaaaad and Asik might just be the absolute worst big roller in the whole league!
Greg Smith is our best, although it doesn't say much. We don't run PnR often, and it has something to do with our roster. In game 1, Parsons ran a few with Asik, quite successfully, with Asik finishing strong above the rim. I wish we would mix it up a little bit in game 2.
It's gotta be Smith. Baseball mitt hands means he nearly always makes the catch. He's got decent hops so he can finish at the rim. DMo is a better pick and pop player. Smith is better at the rim. That said at this point I'd take Smith over DMo as finishing at the rim generates fouls and FT's. Pick and pop doesn't. Unfortunately, nobody playing the 4 is worth anything vs OKC's bigs. These guys just aren't ready.
It's Greg Smith and thats pretty sad. In OKC Harden had Nick Collison who was a great PnR player. In NY Lin had Tyson Chandler who is a great screen and roller.
Good Poll, everyone focuses only on Harden and Lin, and we have two really good PnR pickers, but no one focuses the question on our PnR rollers, I don't think we have any strong PnR finishers.
Being a good PnR player is more than just being good at finishing, although that is obviously an important part. You also need to know how to set a good PICK and know the timing of doing the ROLL. That's why it's called PICK and ROLL. Asik is by far the best pick setter on our team. And he understands the rolling part too. Too bad he doesn't have good hands to catch the pass and he doesn't have the explosiveness to scoring around the rim in traffic.
