We can be glad we have one of the best, but who are the worst? 1.) Chris Wallace - Nothing needs to be said 2.) Mike Dunleavy - Lost Brand and signed Bdavis 3.) Kevin McHale - He is no longer there, but his team was pretty bad 4.) Issiah - He isn't around, but someone needs to give Chris Wallace some competition 5.) Mitch Kupchak - This might be surprising, but he traded Caron for Kwame. He gave Vlad, Sasha, Walton, and Cook pretty big contracts. He also gave bynum a big contract which might turn out to be bad. If not for chris wallace it would be interesting to see how he would be viewed. I must give him credit for Ariza.
Danny Ferry Lets surround the best player in the NBA with the most overpriced scrubs we can find. If Lebron bolts, they will have 70+ million worth of players that could barely give the Kings a run for their money.
Both Chris Wallace and Kevin Mchale build championship teams, I mean the Lakers and Celtics which won championships. So I don't think they are the worst GMs. Dunleavy helped the Clippers made the playoffs and got out 1st round. How it happened didn't really matter. Isiah thought he's job was playing monopoly with other poeple's money. He gambled too much on some mediocre players with big contracts. He thought throwing money at the players' faces would be like viagra to their games. Luxury tax ran wild. That's a hell of terrible job. So, I pick IT as the worst GM.
Hands down its Isiah Thomas. On the other hand, Morey for fooling other GMs in giving the Rockets good players for nothing.
Ernie Grunfeld has been pretty abysmal. I don't know if he necessarily takes the cake for worst GM but he's up there.
I would not want to upset the apple cart right now. Mr. Morey might be dealing with anyone of these current GM's and we don't want to piss them off. Let's do this thread after the draft or right after all the dust has settled.
Have to go with Morey's favouritest GM in the world - Isiah Thomas. To paraphrase, Bill Simmons on his podcast asked Morey if he was sad Thomas was no longer around to dump contracts on, and Morey gave an uncomfortable laugh trying to avoid the question. With Chris Wallace it's hard to tell if the Gasol trade was his idea, or if it was more likely his owner forcing his hand to save money with Kwame's expiring.
I'm surprised no one mentioned Steve Kerr for dismantling the Suns. Although like Wallace, Kerr works for a very disfunctional owner.
I have to go with Danny Ferry. I have no idea how you somehow decide that team is good enough to not make use of Sczerbiak's contract when Lebron's future in Cleveland is at stake.
Clips made the playoff under their former GM Elgin Baylor, not Dunleavy who succeeded Baylor, and the Clips in the lottery spot again. Dunleavy Sr. is getting underserved credit, just like his son coming out of Duke
Yep. Steve Kerr's been an awful GM in Phoenix making one bad deal after another. Larry Bird's done a pretty bad job in Indiana, bringing in white guys who remind him of himself -> Dunleavy Jr. and Troy Murphy.
Kevin McHale was the worst GM. Chris Wallace did a decent job getting Gasol, Cash, & draft picks out of Pau. Saving money was what the deal was all about. Thomas is a good talent evaluator.
I've always wondered if Zeke would be amenable to a position as a scout. He is equally as adept at spotting talent as he is mismanaging finances. In all seriousness, I'd gladly take him as a scout, finding the McGrady, David Lee, etc of the future.
Yeah, I don't think Chris Wallace is all that bad. He did get Rudy Gay from us and was able to get Marc out of the Pau deal and they've got a good amount of up and coming talent.
This is off this topic, and I can't start a new thread, but... According to Chad Ford in his chat right now, the Spurs are getting Richard Jefferson from the Bucks for Bruce Bowen, Fabricio Oberto, and Kurt Thomas. It looks like the west got a lot stronger today. What a steal for the spurs. Can someone please start a thread on this? Jon
Mitch Kupcak also turned Kwame into Gasol and stole Ariza so he should be off the list. Any GM that wins a championship should not be in a worse GM list.
