It has nothing to do with contemporary references but comedic and theatrical styles. Mr. Ed used to be a comedy show that adults watched. Do you think that kind of "comedy" would work today? Absolutely not. Our tastes for comedy have changed. Do you think that movies such as Caddyshack if it had never been released before and were released today would be a sucess? I think not.
Agreed, but I read somewhere where there was a lot of tension between the 4 guys listed in the poll. Each guy thought he deserved top billing, which is why I wondered who would win this poll. As far as the movie holding up well, I would rather watch movies like Caddyshack, Animal House, Stripes, The Blues Brothers, Airplane, etc. than the comedies of today like Old School, Wedding Crashers, etc. There's just no comparision IMO.
I just couldn't pick one person. It changes from person to person. Ted Knight was great and Dangerfield was of course very Dangerfield. I only liked Chevy Chase in 2 roles - Ty Webb and Clark Griswold. Fletch was ok. Lacy Underall was hot as hell. And who can forget Spalding?
I never said that. Humor is based on how much you laugh. If you had never seen Caddyshack and you watched it for the first time today I doubt you would find it funny.
I'd have to disagree. Some of my favorite comedies are old school Woody Allen and Mel Brooks flicks, which were made long before I was born. You should try your experiment though. I'd bet my bottom dollar that most of the Caddyshack virgins you expose the movie to would love it.
just curious......what is the funniest movie you have seen recently? what is the funniest movie you have ever seen?
Team America is probably the funniest thing I have seen in a while. Some of the stuff that others have thought were really funny I thought were a let down. Wedding Crashers, 40 YO Virgin, etc. were not as funny as I thought they would be. The Office and Boston Legal, while not movies, is the funniest thing I have seen that is very recent. Funniest movie of all time? I'd need a lot more time for that one.
if you can, you should check out the BBC version. Ricky Gervais will reshape your entire outlook on comedy. the man is comedic brilliance, and the brain behind both versions of "The Office"
