Elvis, to answer your questions. Yes, yes & yes. I think the quote "Lighten up, Francis." applies here. ------------------
ARGHHHHHHH...how do you fo one of those angry faces???!!! How can anyone say Pearl Jam is overated?! Just because they didn't kiss corporate A$$ and stay in the limelight doesn't mean they aren't still great. Aanyone of you even heard Binuarl? It is a GREAT albulm...and the live cd's FLAT OUT ROCK! arghhhhhhhhh! The most underated is two australian bands...screaming jets and hoodoo gurus...they both should have been huge...and they rocked live like you wouldn't believe... ------------------
subtomic hhuuwwwttt meeeeeeeee LOL! I thought that I had qualified my analysis of Miles "the music that I've been exposed to...", etc. I have tons of Jazz, but I'll try to listen to a bit more Miles just to play fair. I'll assume the PhDs in Jazz history like Miles for a reason. ------------------ Everything is proceeding as I have foreseen...
Most underrated on this thread: Beatles (!!!) Miles Davis (!!!) Stevie Ray Vaughan (!!!) Rolling Stones David Bowie Pink Floyd Led Zeppelin (uh, there's a reason they get played a lot on the radio) Pearl Jam (uh, there's a reason every band wants to sound like them) Nirvana (killing off hair metal alone makes listening to Cobain's soothing tones worthwhile...) At least nobody mentioned my personal favorite, The Who. That would have really set me off! My vote for most overrated goes to The Grateful Dead. They had, what, maybe four or five decent songs? I never understood the whole craze that revolved around these guys. I think someone on this thread said they played one song for 27 minutes at a concert. Eek! I'd rather get my teeth drilled than sit through something like that! Close second: The Doors. Every song had this real whiny organ sound to it, with no bass guitar. What were they thinking? ------------------ [This message has been edited by Lobo (edited July 16, 2001).]
Wait, I want another vote: Peter Frampton. This guy makes one decent 8-track, and all the sudden people start calling him the next Eric Clapton! And since this thread is called "most overrated ROCK-N-ROLL band," let's not even mention Backstreet Boys, Prince, Michael Jackson, Donnie & Marie, Millie Vanillie, Brittney Spears, Menudo, and other such tripe... ------------------
Just did, and I still love it. The only U2 album I can honestly say I don't love most of the tracks is Zooropa, but it even has great songs like "Lemon" and "Stay (Faraway, So Close)". The problem with U2 isn't the band, it's the fans who think they should have made The Joshua Tree Parts II, III, IV, and V instead of the albums they've put out since. ------------------ When you make an assumption, you make an ass out of Uma Thurman.
It's okay - we're all entitled to being wrong every once in awhile. True, although U2 pretty much released the same album from Boy to The Unforgettable Fire. So it's no wonder that their fans were surprised by their 180-degree change. Personally, I admired U2 for taking chances. I just didn't like the music. BTW Achebe, I neglected to include a when I questioned your knowledge of Miles. It's all in good fun for me. You do need to listen to Miles more closely though. ------------------
Any band from the 80's, the most overrated musical decade ever, nothing but crap mostly, yet it's worshipped. (not that the 90's, 70's, 60's are much better, but he 80's are the worst) ------------------ Anyone need a C/C++/Win32/HTML/PHP/SQL/Java/Perl/x86 coder?
