leader by example has to be Yao. but otherwise, he doesn't strike me as having vocal leadership qualities on this Rockets team. that would have to go to the sleepy-eyed one, who hasn't been very impressive lately. eventually, Battier will emerge as a floor leader as well as one from the huddle.
you guys can say all you want that Yao is the leader come crunch time late in the 4th....Tmac holds the dagger.
I voted Tmac... on the simple fact that... he always has been and always wil be the leader... what he needs to do is pull everyone aside.. tell all the guys that he needs their help he needs everyone to step up their game until he can get back into form.... if he is unwilling or unable to do so... then Yao needs to step up and say im taking over... there needs to be someone on the court... who the other players respect... that needs to yell at someone to pick up their game every once in a while... and then lead by example sometimes too... TMAC will come around he just needs to get back into it... as for Yao foul troubles... id rather him foul out then to play like the old tentative Yao... I thought JVG said last year he was going to play him through foul troubles...
Yao is the best player on the team, but he's too soft spoken to be the leader. He's a leader for sure. But he's not the guy in the locker room giving speeches. That role still lies with T-mac. It's T-mac who has to lead. With guys like Sura, Yao, and Battier being T-macs royal court so to speak. But though this might be Yao's team when it comes to who puts up the big numbers now - this is still T-mac's team
Let's not forget, there is a difference between leader and the best player on the team. Shane is more of a vocal leader. Its hard to find one player that is both. Jordan is a great example.
Who is the leader? I dont know but I Know our guys are all great players Maybe T-mac,Maybe Yao,Maybe Shane But you know,JVG is this coach,So he is always the biggest Leader of this team, our Rockets
I think Battier is definetely the vocal leader of the team. Obviously Yao is not the leader, he and T-Mac speak with their play. Battier also gave the little opening statement to the crown on Sat. night just like Jon Barry did last yr. Leadership was something else we gained with Shane.
Yao needs to establish himself as the closer in close games. He's one step from being the leader. As for vocal leader, neither T-Mac nor Yao fits that role.
McGrady is still captain and leader. Though not a particularly great one on court he still has the overall qualities over the others on the team. Recruiting free agents, being asked for his input on team matters by coaches and things like that. 2nd would be Battier. As the team plays together more he can emerge into a more co-captain. Howard might be a decent option. He was the main guy calming down McGrady in Orlando when he kicked the ball into the stands
You are one funny person. Youi were the one who set up this poll. Now you complained about the results of it. So are you trying to say this poll has been poorly set up by yourself or what? If you don't believe in the result of voting then why did you set up this poll in the first place? It seems to me your left brain doesn't really agree with your right brain.
It seems to be weird Yao gets so many votes yet not many posts on this thread saying Yao should be the leader. I think those voted for Yao are, in general, quiet on the board. Some of them do not like to write because of the language barrier. When people are not confortable expressing their opinions well as a second language, they tend to choose a quiet vote.(myself included. well, not exactly, I am writing a reply )There are some voters, I think, are just quiet in nature like Yao. Fans tend to approve the player having the similar personality as their own. But a quiet voter is not neccessary a blind voter, and a quiet vote is not neccessary a less meaningful vote either. Back to the vote itself. I think being vocal is not as important as many posters suggested. Quite often, words like "guys, we need this game" in locker room are much more effective than the loud voice on the court. They are professional players. They all know what is going right and wrong. They do not need their teammate to tell them about it in front of the audience. When something needs to change in the game, it better comes from the coach. The court is not big compared to the soccer field, and there also a lot of oppotunities(timeouts, ect) for the coach to talk so the coach does not really need to rely on someone to pass his words as in a soccer game. Of course, for the locker room talk to be effective, the player must possess two qualities: 1) he is a key player of the team. 2) he has been with this team long enough to show he cares his team and has given all he has. This kind of players get most respect in a team. And their words can truly motivate the team. For that reason, I voted Yao.(Yes, I am Chinese. On this board, I am a rocket fan.)
