I wish Rafer WAS the leader. All good PGs are leaders on the court. But it's Yao to some extent for now.
Although TMac is my all time favorite, I chose Yao as our POTENTIAL leader. 'Cause I don't think our leader should be either takes 3 fouls in the first quartor, or grabs <15 rebounds when he's 7'6. He still has a long way to go.
JVG is the leader and controller of all that happens and it is he who should take all the blame or accolades as the case may be.
Where's the Chuck Hayes option? If you don't believe he's the leader, look at how much more active everyone is when he's on the court.
I would have to disagree with you on this point. The Rockets BIGGEST problem is not that we don't have a leader, but that the team is still trying to find its identity. We have thrown all these new acquisitions together and we expect them to mold together and play to perfection. Everyone should understand by now that it takes time for players to get used to each other. Once the players get a feel for what others like to do, the game becomes a lot smoother, and they start playing together as a team. This is when the identity of the team is created. The Rox will find a niche that they will excel in, (whether it be defense, 3 pt shooting, fast break points, etc.) and will use it to change the pace of the game to their advantage. When the Rox find their identity (what they are good at) then you will see them winning alot of games.
Yao ming is good, but he is not a leader type of player. he does have what it takes to dominate other centers, but he does not have what it takes to lead the entire team. this is not about his skill, this is about his personality and visions about basketball. he could be the 1st offensive option anytime, but never a leader.
Yao is the most important player in this team, but I don't think he will be a good leader. I chose ......Wells......
Yao can be a leader for Chinese team because all other Chinese players suck big time. However, if Tmac keep sucking like this, I guess Yao can also be the leader of the Rockets. Do we have a choice here for Pete sake?
Definitely Yao! He has become the leader since last season after the all-star break. And now, it just need to be officiallized.
I'd say Yao, as of now, but I have no doubt that Battier will emerge as the team leader. And he should be. He's the only Rocket that you could say gives 100% on both ends of the floor.
Can anybody post the leaders of each current NBA team? Then, we can make a deal. BTW, the leader doesn't have to be the best player in the team.
I don't think this team has had strong player leadership since the Sura-Barry days. Being a great player or being the focus of the offense does not a leader make, it is temperment, attitude, and intensity. Sura was a prototype team leader. Ironically, maybe even paradoxically, Wells has the potential to be this kind of leader IF he has matured past his legendary selfishness. I see leadership potential in both Novak and VSpan, but not any time soon.
Miami - Dwade. He's not vocal but he's showing everybody that action speaks louder than words. He stepped in the championship when they were down in the series by 2. He took over the game and scored at least 40 a game to win straight games. That's a leader by action. Then Payton tried to bring him down by yelling at him during the game. He responded positively even though Gary as off the line. That's a leader by heart. Houston - xxx. NObody wants to take responsibility of the team. Bill Worrel joked about Battier as the next NBA commissioner. IF this is the way they see him then that's a good indication that he can be a leader. He doesn't have to be the best player to be a leader but a guy that people look up to or respected. Yao is the leader in the Chinese team but I don't see why he hasn't shown that here. Tmac? No clue. Rafer - the way he smiles tells me that he just want to have fun. Vspan - I guess he just needs 2 good games or 3 then he'll emerge as another possible leader.
