    Deke,

maybe not superstar, but he was an 8 time allstar and 4 time DPOY - that ain't bad.

of course everyone knows about his charity work and hospital - serves humanity
hospital in native land - loyal to country/people
but named hospital after late mother - family man
(and he does all this with passion - and a lot of his own money- which shows he truly believed in this cause - not just a "NBA Cares public announcement " type of guy

and also when he came to georgetown he was there to be a premed student - so i assume education was important also

anyways as far as role models go - I can't think of any other athlete I would want my kids to emulate

Tiger is still a great player.

I never said it's not okay for your kids to worship ballplayers. But they should worship them for what they do on the court, not their personal lives that you really dont know anything about.

Even Dr. Martin Luther King Jr had many mistresses and had sex with a prostitute. These dudes all cheat. I repeat you really have no idea what these men are like all you know is their image. As far as I know, Tiger never made one commercial where he comes out and says "Hi buy this product because I'd never nail a skank or cheat on my wife."

Now if you want to make an argument that you used to be a Clemens fan and now you dont want your kid to idolize him then that's one thing... because he's a known cheater in the sport... but it's not actually fair to build up some image of a dude in your mind then demand he lives up to it in his personal life.

Active players I would have to agree that Peyton Manning is an ideal role model.

Albert Pujols, always shows sportsmanship, trains hard. Does tons of community word under the radar.

Thats what i was about to say. My father was always my role model along with my belief in god and jesus. I've been a sports fan for a long time and growing up, my dad used always tell me those guys on tv are just men. now being almost 40 and having a family of my own, i tell my kids the same thing. When we used to have hero day in school, i used to always bring up and write about my dad. When my kids have the same such projects, they write about me. Too often we want to blame others for our kids following them and use the excuse about being a role model. I'm never surprised by what athletes do. I've been around them many times and have them in my family. I was riding around with worthy not to long after the hooker incident and he was at it again in the strip club. Their all just men and women with faults just like all of us.

Tim Tebow, he'd be the perfect Republican presidential candidate in 2040.

Listen, this is reference to professional sports. not LIFE. If it was life, yes I'd answer Jesus and my parents. So take it easy....

You're missing out on the whole purpose on why I started this thread. I'm simply disappointed by a lot of the professional athletes in sports today. They send the wrong messages at time to viewers all across the world. However, there are some good named individuals who are so successful on the field without cheating or defaming their name. They also do many good things outside of sports also. I wanted to hear what everybody had to say.
    Thank you!

Carl Landry, this guy has the best attitude on life and the game. Carl doesn't let anything bring him down. He has been shot, and has had his teeth knocked out multiple times. Yet he still brings and upbeat attitude every day. Sort of like hunter pence. They both seem to play like they have something to prove. It's sort of like a hungry rookie fighting for the last roster spot, nothing but hustle and heart in those guys.

Ocho Cinco. He loves to have fun and doesn't take him self too seriously. He is very fan friendly, accessible and embraces modern technology. He also works very hard on the field and is one of the game's best. There is nothing you can hate about the guy unless he is playing against your team on that particular weekend.

It's very difficult to find a true human role model these days when we realize that they are all sinners just like us.
There is just one role model in human life and his name is Jesus Christ. :p
