that's so funny because that's EXACTLY what i was thinking as I read the title of the thread!

I remember I went with a group of friends to the Summit for the Rockets draft party. The anticipation built as they approached their selection...the commissioner came to the podium and said, "With the Xth selection in the 19XX draft...the Rockets select...John Turner from Nowhere State."

I remember literally laughing out loud with my friends...we were like, "who the hell is this guy??" He went on to have a stellar career.

But when I think about busts I think about disappointments...people who failed to live up to expectation. Pippen is like the poster-boy for not living up to expectations. And he adds the nice touch of whine to go with it.

I've never allowed myself to badmouth Robert Horry. Why? Because I was mad the Rockets didn't draft Harold Miner instead. I remember being hugely disappointed, and couldn't believe how stupid the Rox were for drafting some Alabama bumpkin over the next MJ.

My penance for such stupidity is never ripping Horry.

true, but he couldnt get us past the jazz.

its wierd how pre-barkley we owned the jazz, but could not beat seattle. after sir big-butt (i mean that in the nicest way) came we could beat seattle, but malone just killed barkley when they played. we became the jazz's b-yatch when barkley came here.

no regrets though! its just a shame that barkley didnt work harder and dedicate himself more. he might have gotten a ring.

    He's STILL getting paid!

I would have to say Bryce Drew was a HUGE bust considering we could have had the services of a homegrown star in Rashard Lewis.

Steve Harris. His name sticks out to me. As I recall in 87 Dallas offered a little known bench warmer by the name of Dale Ellis for Harris. OOPS. Should have taken that one.

Kelvin Stonehands Cato. Signed for 42M in 1999 for having one good preseason game where he literally drooled like a rabid dog while blocking a shot. After getting the money, he never lived up to the hype of that one preseason game.

Be Well, Matt Maloney, Dan Langhi, Bosjan Nachbar, Jason Collier, Jeremy Lin, Johnny Flynn, Dmo, Stromile Swift, Jordan Hill, Hasheem Thabeet...
