Maybe my perception is being clouded by the Orlando, Blazers, NY Francis too much, however the Franchise never really struck me as a good basketball player even in his prime. Both him and AB are indeed sgs trying to become pgs, however the critical difference between the two is that AB can shoot the ball while Francis didn't. Shooting the ball is important because if you have a shot, you can be receive passes from people and immediately become a threat. On the other hand, the only thing Francis knows is to drive inside and dunk. If he doesn't have the ball he's useless offensively, and you don't want him having the ball too much because he doesn't know how to run an offense and will just dribble the air out of the ball. In terms of talent it isn't even close however if you're looking to win games there really is no question between the two. Francis is part of the unholy "loser basketball" point guard trinity (AI, Francis, Starbury), and unfortunately having him in your roster means there's a good chance your team will lose the game.

No man. It's not like AB is the best decision maker in the NBA. He isn't even the best decisiom maker on Rockets.

And Steve Francis was not an all stats guy, he actually had much bigger impact than AB if you compare those two. Steve had a +8.7 in his last year with Rockets to AB's -1.2 this year.

No matter how you slice it, 16.8/2.3/4.6/ on 42.2% 3pt shooting for AB in playoffs shouldn't even be mentioned with 19.2/8.4/7.6 on 41.2% 3pt shooting. And AB has no other intangibles to gain ground. Francis was a better defender under JVG.

    It's not even close.

When people say Steve Francis is overrated, and it might be true, the forgot they are overrating Brooks much more than Francis used to be. SF3 was a legit all star player, AB is behind so many guards in the conference and being called an "all star" player.

    +1

Seriously guys, there were 3 western conference all-star guards injured for the all-star game this year, and Brooks wasn't invited to take any of their spots. Brooks is simply not yet an all-star caliber guard.

Love Brooks but he lacks the size and athleticism that SF3 possessed. This should be a fair debate in 2 more years, or when AB actually makes an all-star team, not right now. Hated the ISO ball years but got to go with Francis.

For all the talk of Steve Francis' "explosiveness" and scoring ability, I don't remember Francis exploding for many huge games. Sure, he would score 15-20 every game, but I don't remember him ever dominating a game with his scoring. Steve may have been explosive on a play-to-play basis, but he was rarely dominant over the course of a whole game.

Admittedly, Brooks still has a lot to prove. But, his performances in 3 or 4 of last year's playoff games were truly dominating. When Brooks is on, he is impossible to stop. I don't think the same was true of Francis.

Stevies numbers were far prettier than his game and the end results.

Too many costly turnovers/decisions, not a really efficient guy and dominated the ball too much.

This question depends on how u mean about the "better"
SF3 is a professional player , very professional , but can't be a great leader , forgive my crudiness
But AB got his future , brilliant future of the NBA , i trust he will be a top point guard at three or four years later

The Francis who played with Van Gundy was a much better PG than Brooks. Scoring less.

Same thing can be said to AB except dribbling too much.

You should watch the games instead of the ESPN highlights.

    You are an idiot.

Define athleticism. Stevie had more hops and was bigger for sure but AB is most definitely quicker and has a better cross over.

Forget primes. I'm not even sure that Brooks has a better crossover than Francis RIGHT NOW.

How do you define dominating? AB only had one 30+ game in last years playoffs, and he happened to played against two slowest PGs in West. While he might have some good games, he also got completely shut down in some other games.

If you had watched almost every single game both players have ever played as a Houston Rocket you would know that AB's cross over is better than Steve's was.

i voted for AB, he's a better PG IMO. SF3 was a good one on one player, he had the green light so one would assume he would put up those types of numbers. a better athlete but not a better player.
