Steve Francis was never a top 10 player in the league, but he is still
    much better than Aaron Brooks.

This is actually a hard question.

Steve played well with Rudy T's iso offense and Cutino as his back court pal.

Aaron Brooks is the primary scorer by default since he's been in the system longer and that all our big name players aren't here or got traded.

I don't know what Brook's peak is, but I know Steve's peak was all star level.

    Steve at his best was:
(Allen Iverson + Jason Kidd) - basketball IQ

I'm surprised ~ 1/3 of members voted for Brooks (way too high). I assume they're the younger fans since I most newcomers wouldn't know/remember how good SF3 was back in the day.

I watched him take over games like the best of them while he was here.

As an individual talent he was that good. I'm not a SF3 OF but Comparing he to Brooks just isn't right.

They both aren't point guards though.

Pretty sure you'd take Will Conroy over Francis, so I can't say this shocks me.

when Steve returned to the Rockets he had a hard time adapting to Rick Adelman's system, thus not much playing time.

A large amount of the fans were screaming "We want Steve", but it turns out that Aaron runs this offense better than Steve.

It could happen, but I don't for see Brooks dribbling for a 24 second violation in the playoffs.

Steve was a beast back then, Aaron is an above average PG.

    Not really close IMO.

I would take him for a 10-day rather than paying Francis the max. Francis wasn't good enough to lead a team to a title as the best player and couldn't adapt to a more supporting role - his season with Van Gundy showed that. So what you're left with is stats - he was good for that, just like McGrady.

Uhhh brooks doesnt "run the team". He is out there strictly to score with this group. His playmaking ability is not very good as demostrated the past two games when his shot is not falling. When his shots are not going in he doesn't give the team anything else. No assists, no steals, not even getting to the FT line by drawing contact. Let's keep this real talk. I like ABs shot, but he is far from a PG that runs the team.

Your right its not that close.

    Aaron Brooks is just better.

Brooks does not make the mistakes that Francis made his third year. We put up with Steve's third year mistakes because we thought that they were just growing pains for a former #2 pick in the draft. Reality was that the Steve we saw in the third year was as good as it would ever get.

Francis gets the nod at rebounding but thats it. Never played defense (guys like Luke Ridnour used to have career nights against him). Francis was a turn-over machine. He did not have great handles. His favorite move was to walk the ball up the court and after pounding the life out of the ball for 15 seconds he would dribble to one of the corners and pick up his dribble allowing defenders to trap him. I remember Calvin constantly critisizing Steve for always dribbling to the corner and picking up his dribbling allowing teams to trap him.

Francis could jump out of the gym but he was a horrible decision maker. For every game he won for us with his athleticism he lost two with his bone headed mistakes. There was a time on this board that the very thought of someone like Steve Nash being better than Steve Francis would get you flamed but we all know better now.

Aaron Brooks is twice the ball handler that Steve Francis ever was. He is just a good a passer and makes much much better decisions with the ball in his hands that Steve ever did. Aaron does not come with the athletic gifts that Steve was bourn with but he is a better shooter and as time goes by he will be a better scorer. I think Aaron right now is a more reliable scorer than Steve was particularly in his third year. Aaron plays very well with in the team philosophy while Steve played ISO ball and could do nothing else.

I would take Aaron every day of the week. And if I need one last shot at the end of the game.... Aaron Brooks over Francis every day of the week.

Steve Francis was a selfish noob who had an arrogant opinion of himself and whose main hobby was to dribble out the shot clock in order to try to take a hard shot and steal all the glory. He was a decent player whose only saving race was his ability to elevate to the rim before even that athleticism left him.

As much as I mildly dislike Brooks, I prefer him over Francis any day.

Steve in his prime was a better player then Brooks. Now I don't think AB has reached his prime yet, so this could change, but Steve was an All-star and a great player for several seasons.

Brooks, he has a much higher basketball IQ!

Athletic ability, I'd admit Francis is more explosive, but it was annoying seeing him dribble the air out of the ball.

I really don't understand the infactuation with Francis...
