Please dont be ridiculous. 95% of Stockton's points came off pick N roll. He's never been known for creating offense by himself.

It's like saying Joe Montana was a great QB only because he had great receivers.

Judge for yourself: (BTW, I hate watching Jazz highlight videos  )

well put Stockton with Barkley (or another great PF) and he would get around the same assists.

I'd vote for Lebron James if he's on the list. I know he's been criticized alot for being a drama queen and how he's weak mentally, but he's still better than the guys mentioned here.

2-time regular season MVP (maybe more coming later)
    4-time NBA first team
    multiple all-star appearances

Malone and Barkley were good, but James is obviously the best player to not win a ring.

How is using the pick and roll not creating his own offense? Creating your own offense doesn't have to mean in iso or in the post. Stockton was still the one with the ball in those pick and roll situations. Guys who don't create for themselves are the ones who catch the ball in ready to score positions.

Not necessarily. Barkley wasnt as productive as Malone late in his career, and damn sure wasnt the pick & roll player Malone was. Replace Malone w/ Hakeem and maybe Stockton's stay the same (or increase). But Stockton's game benefited from Sloan's system not Stockton's greatness..

Does that last sentence mean that you do not think Stockton was a great player?

The question said "retired" player. If it included all players Lebron would have to be an option, though if he quit tomorrow I wouldn't say he was better than Malone, Barkley or Baylor. Close call I would say. I don't think Lebron will be a factor in this because his team will win rings.

Stockton had a great career and unsurpassed longevity, but at his best he was not the equal to Gary Payton or Steve Nash as an individual in impacting a game.

If Lebron retired today, I wouldn't put him above Malone as the best player to not win a ring.

For those saying MJ should have won MVP over Malone that year, MJ himself said in an interview before the MVP announcement that Malone deserved it over him.

so can we say stockton got half of his assists from playing with malone?

malone is easily the best scoring PF of all time. dude could do anything on the court but make 3s.
