Duncan has 4 Rings. I read at article today when comparing NBA players that are close in talent, you look at how many Rings they have. You can be the best if you don't have a ring, that simple. I don't see how anyone could put Barkley over Duncan. I don't care how much you like him. Duncan 4 rings Malone 0 rings Barkley 0 rings The only argument is, Malone and Barkley were in the Jordan days. That's the only one.
Barkley's not better than Duncan simply because Barkley took a vacation on one end of the court for most of his career. I never look at rings when comparing players. It's not that the rings don't matter - it's just that too much importance is put into them when there are too many variables not involving the player that contribute to acquiring them. There are a lot of great players from the 80's that don't have rings simply because 2 teams dominated that era : the Lakers and the Celtics, and each of those teams was LOADED with talent.
Sorry, but you're remembering incorrectly. From the moment Hakeem came into the league everyone knew he would be the monster in the paint and Ralph would play the PF position. The reason? Ralph was a far far far better ball handler than Hakeem was. There was no way Hakeem could operate on the perimeter as well as Ralph. Hakeem also didn't have a consistent 18-foot game that early in his career (of course it could be debated neither did Ralph, but that's for another thread... ).
How many rings does Malone have again? Oh right.. But wait, he went to LA with KOBE and Shaq, IN THEIR PRIMES! How many rings did that get him? Oh right.
Duncan, hands down. 4 rings versus 0 is the number we really need to see. Granted, Tim Duncan did get play right along side one of the greatest centers to ever play the game and likely learned a thing or two. Hakeem can try to teach Yao everything he knows, but it would mean a TON if Yao could actually play with Hakeem. Just sayin.
who is the best pf all time is quite debatable and should include many more candidates. but if i have to choose b/w the 2 listed here, td by a mile. no, 5 miles.
Flawed poll. As much as I hate Karl Malone, he's the only PF listed. As much as people wanted to call Duncan a PF, he was not a PF.
Barkely played average to solid D esp in clutch moments. Him being a superstar and not playing superstar D is what most people harp on. Nash can not even spell D. You can make the argument that he was the reason the Suns couldn't even make it to the finals. Tony Parker and Jason Terry/D. Harris literally abused him time and time again. Whats hurts Steve Nash the most is that Terry Porter was brought in to instill defense in the team....however Nash (the LEADER of the team) acted like a spoiled child and rebelled against defense.
Hakeem Olajuwon 2 rings Kobe Bryant 3 rings Clearly Kobe is better than Hakeem right? Wilt Chamberlain 2 rings Tim Duncan 4 rings Tim obviously blows Wilt away right? Anyone < 11 rings Bill Russell 11 rings Bill Russell is the greatest player of all time? Rings come about because you have a team that can compete for being the best in the league and things go your way that season. Maybe you even have a team that is so much better than others that they are a dynasty like the Russell Celts. Rings are not determined by one player.
