Well said. I believe he wanted to play power forward so he wouldn't have to guard Shaq which is an odd choice. Since his center was the declining and washed up David Robinson not the prime David Robinson.

Duncan and it's not even close, IMO.

it's hard to say one is better than the other. malone played in a different era and duncan's finals' competition was significantly weaker. I voted duncan because I dislike malone more but objectively neither is better. barkley deserves to be thrown in there too.

Duncan had some great spurs teams but I don't believe all of them could have beaten malone's best jazz teams or barkley's best suns teams. I actually think the opposite.

This thread is killing me... :D A "greatest PF ever poll" with no mention of Kevin McHale is nuts. I don't care if you don't vote for him, but to not mention him is just sad. And people saying Moses? Moses Malone? Wth? :D

I have a tough time picking among McHale, Duncan, and Malone. Garnett is great, but I somehow can't put him up there among those 3. Barkley was offensively great, but he was a horrific defender (even when he bothered to play defense). McHale, Malone, and Duncan were all good defensive players.

I'd take Karl Malone, Kevin McHale, then Tim Duncan, but really, you can flip them around in any order you want.

Yes exactly. Duncan is really only a great center, but put him at the PF position and he's GOAT. It's not just the stats and accolades (which he has more than enough, MVP, 4 rings, gazillion All Nba 1st team), its the fact Duncan is clutch, and knows what to do at the right time. Plus, he's not a douchebag like Malone (who should be jailed for sex with a minor). Duncan by a landslide, its not even close.

Duncan played in an era that had a lot of really good PFs.

Malone never had to suffer through rebuilding, he won zero DPOY awards, zero rings, and would not have won his first MVP if it wasn't for the fact that voters were tired of giving it to MJ.

Malone, considering Duncan is a Center.

    Duncan
    Barkley
    Malone

Barkley played the best basketball of any PF ever for a stretch of about 3-4 years. Duncan wins on his consistency, longevity and of course, the rings.

Well put about Barkley and Duncan. I'd take Barkley's best over Duncan's best any day. The 92-93 MVP Barkley was the true definition of a beast. Nobody was more fierce and competive with a complete game including a crossover, 3pt range and ability to create for teammates. Those things were unheard for a PF in that era. He had handles like a PG, a peremiter game like a SG, ability to run the wing like a great SF, and post moves like all great PF's/C's. The most amazing thing maybe though is he accomplished all these things standing at 6'5 on a good day and that ridiculous vertical while carrying extra weight is truly impressive.

    Per Wiki -

The trade to Phoenix in the 1992–93 season went well for both Barkley and the Suns. He averaged 25.6 points on .520 shooting, 12.2 rebounds and a career high 5.1 assists per game,[2] leading the Suns to an NBA best 62–20 record.[24] For his efforts, Barkley won the league's Most Valuable Player Award,[25] and was selected to play in his seventh straight All-Star Game. He became the third player ever to win league MVP honors in the season immediately after being traded, established multiple career highs and led Phoenix to their first NBA Finals appearance since 1976.[1] Despite Barkley's proclamation to Jordan, that it was "destiny" for the Suns to win the title, they were defeated in six games by the Bulls. He averaged 26.6 points and 13.6 rebounds per game during the whole postseason,[10] including 27.3 points, 13.0 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game throughout the championship series.[26] In the fourth game of the Finals, Barkley recorded a triple-double after collecting 32 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists.

Nobody was more bad ass than Sir Charles from his antics on and off the court, standing up to Shaq and Body slamming him, his signature Air Force CB Shoes, the Right Guard commercial and how he just signaled over the training staff without the slightest show of pain when he ruptured his quad tendon.

I know a lot of posters here think he's a fool for some of the stuff he says but it's all in fun and I know deep down he cares about the Rockets success.

Any defensive accolades? Didn't think so. Barkley was borderline horrible on defense although he did provide some impact defensive play in clutch situations. Funny how Barkley didn't agree with Nash winning MVPs while not playing defense when Barkley himself was equally guilty.

He was a solid defender. He played great D on Tim Duncan when he was an old man...

    Fine, Timmy is a PF.

Yet Dream is shorter, quicker, and has more range on his jumper.

If Ralph Sampson would have stayed healthy, Dream would have been remembered as a PF that could play C, and not the the other way around...

First, it wasn't the other way around. Dream always played in the paint. And no... if Sampson had stayed healthy, Dream would still be remembered as a center and Sampson would be remembered as a 7'4" PF. You need to learn your Rockets history my man. Dream took over the post when he arrived.

Duncan is extremely overrated in his mid-range game. Is he average and above? Yes, Duncan was/is. However, it's not as good as people make out of it. There's a reason why he shot/shoots bank shots and that's because his form really isn't that good.

Dream was a one of a kind player, He was a center who had the mobility of a guard as many greats have said recently. He played like a center defensively in the 90s, and he advanced the position of the center offensively.

Do people realize Elgin Baylor played pf. He averaged 27 and 13 over a 13 year career.

No he didn't. Not only did Duncan post him up I vividly remember Duncan putting a quick spin on Barkley, getting to the rim with ease, and dunking it. Willis immediately came in.

Karl Malone if you favor offense, Duncan if you favor defense (and consider him a PF). Barkley had some good statistical seasons, but overall not as dominant as the other 2.
