Not a good timing for the poll. Obviously Carmelo's at disadvantage here (he just got suspended for 15 games) and Kobe coming off a 45 point game.

IMHO, Kobe is the BEST player in the league right now. But pure scorer, I'd say Carmelo is the best. Also little known fact for you fantasy bball heads. the totals of [ppg + rb + ast] averages, MELO actually has a higher than lebron james (at 40.5 vs 40), which I enjoyed very much so far this season by taking MELO with my second pick UNTIL NOW. :(

I voted for Lebron. I think he's the best combination scorer/passer of the bunch. He's also a good chemistry player who doesn't necessarily demand the ball as much guys like Kobe or AI to be effective.

    Are you a Rox fan?

If you are and you left out Yao, shame on you!

I'm not even being a homer, but if Yao is officiated fairly, he can easily be the top scorer in the league!

Yeah just 2-3 years ago this would be a close one between T-Mac and Kobe.

Unfortunately, now this is not the case.

just wait a couple of weeks man. I still believe in the guy.

just wait until January 1st, 2007. that's when the real Mcgrady is coming back right with the old leather ball that he won 2 back2back scoring championships with.

call this whatever you want. call me a dreamer, a r****d, I dont care. I still believe. I just hope he can come back and regain his position as the best offensive/defensive/all around player in the league.

I voted for Kobe, but now that I think about it a little more I think the answer is Nash.

Here's an interesting stat for you guys. Since the 01/02 season, Nash has been the starting PG on every team that has led the league in scoring. This that's a coincidence?

I pretty much copied the top ppg stat from nba.com and added Nash since he gets so many dimes with a very respectable scoring average.

I think Melo could score 82 points if they fed him the rock like they do Kobe. Just look at Melo's percentages. He's shooting 50% from the field.

    Pure scoring: Kobe
Player that can go off at any minute? (i.e. streaky): Arenas
    Most versatile: Carmelo

Nobody pver the last 3 years has done to the Pistons when it mattered what Wade did to them. Kobe in fact fizzled pretty bad 3 years ago with a ring on the line. What does that tell you?

Wade is somewhat of a hybrid of Kobe and Nash. Better playmaker and leader of men than Kobe, and harder to individually stop than Nash.

The Nuggets also play at the fastest pace in the league, and George Karl has a penchant for leaving Carmelo late in the game to run up his scoring average even when the Nuggets have a safe lead. And Carmelo is taking 4 more shots a game than Kobe as well.

And even though Carmelo is shooting a higher FG% from the field, his overall scoring efficiency when you take into account threes and free throws isn't as good as Kobe's right now.

it's certainly not a complete coincidence b/c he's damn efficient and really good at offense, but it would be hard to argue anybody has had more offensive talent around them the last 5 years than nash and he's had two coaches that stress pushing the ball all the time, no matter who their pg is.

plus, the #1 offense in efficiency last year was the team he left, dallas, so that tells you what kind of supporting cast they had to do that 2 years after basically losing nash for nothing.

Nash should be leading this poll. The question is "offensive player" not "scorer", otherwise I'd vote Kobe because he can score in every way possible. If he needs to get you 60 he'll probably get you 60, no matter who they throw at him. Anywho, here's the basis for why I chose Nash in this poll.

    NASH
    20 points
    12 assists (3.7 TO's)
    52% FG
    49% 3PT
    92% FT
    37 minutes

    BRYANT
    29 points
    5 assists (3.5 TO's)
    49% FG
    39% 3PT
    83% FT
    40 minutes

Kobe is better in exactly ONE offensive category, that being scoring. However, he's only 9 points better than Nash while Nash is responsible for at least an extra 14 of his team's points (probably more like 17 or 18 when you consider 3's) on his extra 7 assists. Not to mention Nash pulls off those assists with more than double the assist:turnover ratio. On top of that, Nash has shown a greater ability to turn up his scoring when needed while still getting teammates involved than Kobe has of getting teammates involved while still scoring. I know it's not all about stats, but trust me I've seen each guy play way more that enough to form an educated opinion on this issue.

Now if the poll creator responds and says they really intended this to be a poll for the best "scorer" then like I said, change my vote to Kobe. However, as someone who took a lot of research and statistics courses in my major, I have to say it's of utmost importance to word poll/survey questions in a way that makes the question extremely clear, thus making the collected data accurate. Otherwise you get people who aren't sure exactly what they're voting for (like me!) :D

Oh yeah he said offensive player...not scorer.

    Best Offensive Player? Nash. Easily.
