maybe not *great*...but good..I was a TE in jr high..he was my idol... EDIT: Barber's stats with the Oilers: in 5 years,140 catches,1886 yards,13.5 yds per reception, 13 TDs. He only started 4 of those years.. Not bad in an era where TE's were mainly expected to block.. Dr Dooom!? that was Brazile's nick wasnt it? my memory kinda sux...
but thats just it, in Bum's scheme...he spent most of his time blocking for Earl... When they went to him...he got good yardage outta the catches..
How come no one has mentioned the Ice Cream Man himself? CARL ROACHES!!!! Am I the only one that remembers him. He was Billy "Whiteshoes" Johnson revisited. Well not really but he was pretty good nevertheless. Now off topic even further......Didn't Webster Slaughter look extrememly smaller once he put on an Oiler uni? In Cleveland he was a beast, here he just morphed into Handy Smurf.
What about Warren Moon??? (suppose to be a joke) but i dont know football history very well so for all i know he might not have played for them, i just think he did.
How could we forget, Kenny Burroughs Curley Culp Ray Childress Al Smith man, the Oilers have had some great defensive players over the years.. I miss the Oilers.. a pox on your house Bud Adams EDIT: SonicsGM yes Warren Moon was a damn good quarterback for the Oilers. but when talking about Oiler greats..he pales in comparison with some of the guys mentioned in this thread
this thread is just reminding all the squandered playoff possibilities the Oilers endured with such a great collection of players over the years. time to cry.
I named my fantasy football team "Luv Ya Blue" this season. I went 12-2 and had the #1 seed going into the postseason. Needless to say, I was upset in the first round by a team that was missing Priest Holmes due to injury. Go figure . Classic Oilers. I should have expected as much.
Warren Moon is the all time Pro football passing yards leader (that includes the time he spent in the CFL). I think only he and Earl Campbell deserve consideration.
It really irks me that Dan Marino is still considered the all time pass leader in professional football.
Does "professional football" include the Arena League? I bet Kurt Warner would lap everybody when it's all said and done if you add his Arena stats. Hell, Jim Kelly had 9,842 passing yards and 83 TD passes in TWO years with the Houston Gamblers. That's probably the best two year stretch in "professional football" history...
Earl, without a doubt. But there were so many great Oilers... Blanda, Joiner, Brazile, Houston, Mathews, Munchak, Childress, Smith, Whiteshoes, Pastorini (remember when he was knocked out cold, woke up and led them to that big win against Miami?) and on and on. It really DOES make you want to cry that they never made it all the way. Some damn good teams and players... I don't know if I'll ever feel anything about the Texans remotely like I did about the Oilers. I'm also not crazy about the name. Couldn't they have come up with something better than THAT?
