Daniel Day-Lewis. I personally can't recall the last movie in which the guy wasn't fantastic. His turn as Bill "The Butcher" Cutting in "Gangs of New York" was mesmerizing.
I can't believe that Gregory Peck did not get mentioned until page 4. Capable of giving a better performance that 90% of the people mentioned thus far.
Ed Norton. Kevin Spacey and Morgan Freeman are my distant seconds. Norton is the most ridiculously versatile actor Hollywood has, IMO. Who else can play a disenfranchised Barney (Death to Smoochie), a happy-go-lucky priest (Keeping the Faith), a hardcore Neo-Nazi (American History X), a sleazeball gambler (Rounders), a mysterious magician (The Illusionist), and a certifiably insane office worker with multiple personality disorder (Fight Club)... and in every single one, he makes you think "hot damn, he was fantastic in that role?" The man is a god.
Se7en, Fight Club, and Ocean's 11/12/13. He's definitely nowhere near the top in my book, but there are definitely movies he's been good in. Most of all Fight Club.
What blows me away is that his very first role was The schizophrenic alter boy in Primal Fear. Still one of the best performances ever.
okay.....I forgot about Snatch. Good flick. Babel is easily one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Fight club was okay except for Brad Pitt. And to the other post about Oceans 11 12 13....yipes. dreadful. I also will admit that Meet Joe Black was watchable.
Ed Norton is pretty nice. His role in American History X made me hate him thats how great he was. He made me think he was like that in real life, not too many actors can fit into their role like that.
Ugh...Troy? That is one of the worst movie ever and his acting in that movie was laughable. That movie was only deem watchable because of Eric Bana.
