Cook is trash. His best years were as a Laker. Living in LA, I saw him play many times. Many Lakers fans were glad to get rid of him.

Don't be misled by his height and 3pt shooting percentage. The best thing we can do is buy out his contract. If there are any minutes he could take, I'd give it to Landry or Scola.

I don't doubt your word but I will go out on a limb and said that Brian Cook will be good fit here in Houston. No other team has a big man that commands double team like Yao (and Olajuwon before him). If Cook can shoot from outside, he is golden.

Houston has a long history of slow, unathletic 3/4 guys who can shoot like Padgett, Chilcutt, Novak, Bullard. Cook has a faster trigger than all of them. I see a lots of kick-out from Yao going to Cook and in the net in 2 seconds flat.

Pete chilcutt is a horrible comparison, chilcutt wasn't a 3 point shooter and probably sucked more than Cook did. Bacxk when chilcutt played roations were shorter and there was less talent, otherwise chilcutt wouldn't even make the team. I think he's a better shooter than padgett from 3.

do y'all realize a team consists of several major AND minor parts?? Not everyone is going ot be a tmac, a ron, or a Yao. EVERY championship team has its role players that put in their two cents here and there and never make a huge impact. The point is for those guys to be ready when their number is called, even if it's rare, that's what novak brought. If this team wants to truly be a championship team they need 3 point shooters, unless there's someone better available then Cook isn't a wasted spot, it's another piece.

Cook has two things we want Rafer Alston and Kyle Lowry to have:
    size and shooting !
So bad they can not be combined.

I think his defense is not that horrible, he has a great body, he's very tall, he's big, a good shot blocker and have good fundamentals. Sometimes he's a little soft, but he's by far a much better inside defender than Novak. He's a capable defender (potential good defender), important. Pau Gasol for example is a bad defender in RS, but when he wants (toughest games) he can be a very effective defender.

I like a lot this addition. We needed a true shooting PF for years, now we have it. With Scolandry he won't play a lot of minutes, but he can be a good piece for some games and for the playoffs. I'm almost sure he's gonna surprise the fans.

I remember reading an article in the la times years ago when he was on the lakers that one practice he was clinging to the walls for dear life.

the guy is 6'10 and has vertigo...go figure

    Cookie?

A lot of us know about him. I see him playing 5 - 10 min spotty minutes at best. The guy is garbage if his trey doesn't fall. He is a little bit than more physical than Novak, but that doesn't say a lot.

Really? My memory is failing me then cuz I can picture him draining threes pretty consistently in his limited minutes.

then i was wrong, must be confusing him with someone else or I was thinking of his below average FT shooting, but i still think Cook is better, i don't see chilcutt being on an NBA right now.

He's dead soft on defensive side, and always gave up more And 1 than 3pts hit.

I see him like a Sam Perkins-type player. Well, at least in Perkins' last years in the NBA

He'll be used to space the floor and shoot the three against taller players.

It might benefit the Rockets to keep him around.

We don't have many PFs who shoot the ball consistently well, except Scola. Landdry is good around the rim, but his jumper is still a work in progress. Chuck Hayes...enough said.
