Hakeem vs Duncan? It's like comparing apples to oranges.
One is Mr. Fundamental, while the other is unstoppable.
If I had to take one?, hands down "The Dream"!
Duncan hasn't seen moves like Hakeems, I bet "The Dream" could still shake Duncan out of his shoes. ;)

Actually I think he kind of did dominate every play-off series. Unless you count his last two years one of which he played in Toronto I can't think of even one series where he did not dominate.

i dont know how you could ignore Kobe. Yeah, we r all rockets fans but come on. The guy single-handedly dragged his mediocre lakers team to the playoffs almost every year and is number 2 AND 3 in most points scored in a single game. I would even go as far as saying that he could be more dominant than MJ. MJ never had the shooting range that Kobe has.

Also, AI. the guy averaged 40 pts and 10 assists in five str8 games and is a career 27.6 and 6.3 assists. he is not even 6 foot and still unstoppable. and he was torturing the shaq/kobe lakers on a mediocre sixers team while injured.

Duncan...Mr. Fundamental?? What is his free throw percentage? listed at like 60%.

and shaq... we all hate shaq. congratulations shaq you are a hall of famer for physical presence. im glad you finally learned how to make free throws at the end of your career.

and where is matt bullard on that list?? no points for best hair in the nba? forget dr. J. bullard was dr. smooth.

    ???

Where exactly did you get that thought? Hakeem played at a consistantly high level...that is one of the things that was so great about him.

Do you realize that from 1986 - 1996 I could only find 3 games where Hakeem did not score in double digit points.

During that same 10 year stretch he never averaged less than 10.8 rebounds a season.

During that same 10 year stretch he averaged less than 3 blocks a game only twice...2.7 his rookie year and 2.9 his 10th season.

During that same 10 year stretch he never averaged less than 1.5 steals a game and routinly finishing the year in the top 10.

During that same 10 year stretch he shot over 50% every single year.

Hakeem was the model of cosistancy...

Duncan's numbers jst don't match up.

Duncan averaged more non-double digit hames a year than Hakeem had in 10 seasons.

Duncan never averaged 3 blocks a game.

Duncan never averaged 1 steal a game.

Duncan never averaged 13 boards a game.

When you look at the numbers its just not close.

Maybe he had Kareem's college rival mixed up with another Houston Cougar / Houston Rocket....Elvin Hayes...Kareems arch rival in college.

I can't put AI and Kobe in the top 10. I just can't. Both are still active, and neither of them have done what Duncan has. And I LIKE Kobe. Search the board, and you'll probably see a comment from me somewhere saying that.

But Kobe couldn't do it without Shaq before, and he can't do it without Gasol/Bynum now.
And Iverson was good and all, but unless he puts up Oscar Robertson-like numbers, he can't be argued into the top 10 all-time.
    Both are phenomenal players though.

Nah. I really just said something stupid without thinking. What gets me is that I knew BETTER. Oh well. We all do dumb stuff. That's one of mine.

If we're talking history here about players who revolutionized the game here's a history lesson.

    George Mikan

George Mikan was the center for the Minneapolis Lakers, the same franchise that Kobe plays on today, and was the first player to truly dominate the NBA and is largely responsible for putting the NBA on the map. He was so dominant in college and the NBA that the goal tending rule was invented because of him.

    illegal defense at its finest.

robert horry exposed as not a true PF vs Skinny Shawn Kemp.

Gary Payton exposed Kenny Smith (on his last legs)

Not Dream's fault. However, a decline in quickness was notice.

    Ugly uniforms for the Rockets.

Quickness, same reason Robinson couldn't stop him.

it is always hard to compare between the great player, but even i am rocket fan, i still put TD over dream, one simple reason, more rings.

come on, great player are always capable put up big numbers, in the end, people are only talking about success of team. look at the KG right now, it is great example, he is more capable of put up 20 and 10, however only because of ring make him greater.

i am big fan of dream, and a lot of time i hate to watch TD's game. but you have to admit he is best power forward of all time. and dream is 3rd , may 4th of best center of all time.

Then Bill Russell is the greatest basketball player of all time with no one coming anywhere close right?

    you know he won 13.

Is Tim Duncan better than Horry? Horry won 7. More than Jordan.

That is a HORRIBLE argument, because one can come back and say "well, that means Horry is better than TD right?". You would never say that! Look what I just did in 2 sentences, proved that rings != talent.

I don't really think rings come into the equation unless one of the players significantly picked up their game in the playoffs and maybe thats why it resulted in rings. But Hakeem and Duncan are about even the playoff dominance stat, and you can explain the ring disparity by looking at who Duncan was playing with those years. Half of those titles you can make the argument that he wasn't the best player on the team at the time. I mean, obviously he was the best player in the sense that he's Tim Duncan so he's automatically a top 5 player every year, but he didn't always have the best performance. With Hakeem there was NEVER doubt.

There is just no argument. Hakeem was better than Duncan in their prime, and at least statistically Hakeem is about even right now with Duncan career wise and Duncan hasn't finished his yet.

you are the one who said Duncan is better cause he has more rings than Dream.

Plus *in my opinion* any real Rockets fan who has ACTUALLY SEEN BOTH of them play can honestly tell you that its no contest.

Dream is superior. Spurs fans use to tell you that David Robinson was better than Dream, then they played faced to face.

    Have some:
    (Old Dream vs Young Duncan)

Real Rocket fans love their championship teams. The line has to be set somewhere for us Rocket fans.

I was a huge fan of the Coogs and Elvin back then. The night of the game, I was at the drive-in movie with a chick, busy getting into her pants, when I realized the game had started. Cranked up the radio, as did nearly every car in the place, and listened to the whole incredible thing. Needless to say, I didn't get laid that night (she was pissed... I brought things to a halt rather abruptly!), but I was a happy man.
