Your list is subjective and false if you don't have mister triple double himself on it....Oscar Robertson who is arguably the greatest player of all time. I put Magic at 1 but the Big O diserves consideration.
Oh BTW, I dont even think its that close...The Dream was just better...period. Imagine Duncan with about 3 or 4 times the athletisism
Did the Rockets ever have to go out and look for big men capable of guarding the other team's best low post players so Dream could slack off on D and get some easy weak side blocks?
The comparison is ridiculous. Supporting cast says enough. In the past 19 seasons the Spurs have made the playoffs 18 times. The one exception was when they tanked to get Duncan. In his first championship Duncan won with a perenially competitive team including Robinson Avery Johnson and Sean Elliot which probably would have gone to the second round even without him. In his last three championships he's had Manu and Tony Parker. Olajuwon carried the Rockets to their Championship wins, and beyond Sampson early on and an old Drexler and completely over-the-hill Barkley late, it would be hard to pinpoint a single All-star he played with.
This shouldn't even be a debate. I can understand spurs fans support for Duncan, but Dream played against much stiffer competition, played exceptionally well on BOTH ends of the floor, and excelled for a REALLY long time. If the Rockets ever had a real point guard to go with Dream he would have more then 2 rings. Plus the Spurs have always had really good role players around Duncan, much better then Dream's crew - for the most part. We did have a couple of really nice teams.
hey thats easy. Hakeem but, duncan is a very skilled post player. After all hes got 4 ring. And Artset. And Yao & Mcgrady have NONE!
Not sure why Nick has chosen now to bump this thread - but anyway it's Dream all the way. If they went head 2 head in their collective primes, Hakeem would put Duncan in the spin cycle so bad he would have to leave the game with vertigo!!
Hakeem with out a doubt. Taking nothing away from Duncan...he's a future HOFer, but come on. Factor in the competition at big man that Hakeem faced and it's no competition. Plus, Hakeen could kill a lion with his bare hands
you give hakeem manu and parker and he would win 6 championships in a row easily duncan is a great player but one on one dream would make him look foolish at both ends of the court lol and thats minus my homerism
I'll take Duncan into consideration as a better player the next time we hear him dribbling like a PG, or guarding a PG, or carrying a team on a consistent basis. Hakeem is what Duncan was never. Duncan is terrific, and some would call him the purest form of a Power Forward of a Basketball Player. He had fundamentals more sound than others, and he is basically a player who perfected all "teach you how to play basketball" videos to the max. However, this is why Duncan is not better than Hakeem. Hakeem is a mix of every single position. He is IMO a mix of PF, Center, SF and probably more. Hakeem can guard any position, can play almost any position. If Hakeem decided to work on his 3 PT shot, he will probably become a consistent 3 PT shooter if he wanted to. It is because Hakeem's style of play is so opposite to "classic" and "pure" centers that makes him one of the greatest or the greatest center of all time. Hakeem was too fast for centers, too big for guards, unguardable by the best defenders. Hakeem's style of play revolutionized, Tim Duncan's do not. Nobody in NBA history moves even half as fast as Hakeem in the post.
always a pleasure to inform the young people let see by numbers Tim Duncan Career Season Averages G GS MPG FG% 3P% FT% OFF DEF RPG APG SPG BPG TO PF PPG 832 831 37.2 0.508 0.189 0.684 3.1 8.7 11.8 3.1 0.8 2.4 2.82 2.70 21.6 Hakeem Olajuwon G FG% 3PFG% FT% Rebs RPG Asts APG Stls Blks Pts PPG 1,238 .513 .202 .712 13,748 11.1 3,058 2.5 2,162 3,830 26,946 21.8 by numbers you can see it was a offensive weapon that you can trust in crunch time and withou taking away his defense that was great; but are to diferent position. in my personal opinion olajuwon kick his asss all over the place when he play against him.with robinson it was something pretty to see i would say take olajuwon with that first pick
a good question for sure - for someone who knows nothing about the game! hakeem is easily the better player... now who had the better career? duncan's 4 rings would have alot to say about that... that could be an interesting debate. for pretty much every reason already mentioned - hakeem by far is the better player. ...though for someone who didn't watch nba previous to 1997 (approximately 10yrs ago) it is a legitimate question.
