    Dave Matthews.

If I hear one song, I'll think "maybe I do like this". If I hear two in a row, I can't stand it.

I really like the retro stuff like Franz and The Datsuns, but I guess thats because I hate the new stuff like Linkin Park...

This is a great thread idea. And it finally gives me an opportunity to get something off my chest...

The Sex Pistols! I hate them! It's a bunch of silly noise! Wooooooooo!

    That felt good.

"Nu-Metal" - Korn, Linkin Park & their cloned minions
Strokes, White Stripes & their cloned minions
99% of rap music released in the past ~10 years
100% of "country" music regurgitated by Nashville
    And another vote for Radiohead

Hmm, I guess I should have been clearer here with this thread. I was really meaning CDs/albums that you have gotten that you cannot get into.

I mean I can't get into country music (for the most part), Nu-Metal, bluegrass, etc but I don't have any CDs by those types of artists.

Oh well, I guess it isn't too bad because it has made people like DarkHorse happy to get things off their chests, hehe.

If it means anything, I do have a copy of "Never Mind the Bollocks Here's the Sex Pistols," so I WAS talking about a CD I've gotten.

"Anarchy in the UK" is a great song, but I don't get how this is one of the greatest albums of all time.

I have to go with Radio Head my self just because of the critics. I like some songs but I don't understand all the raving they get.

Led Zeppelin. I like a couple of their songs, but most of their catalogue puts me to sleep.

Outkast. I've hated them since "Miss Jackson" was played for twenty-four hour stretches a couple of years ago.

Grateful Dead (they have some great songs, but the vibe and the fans and the 'jamming' drive me nuts)
    Phish
    Bruce Springsteen
    Neutral Milk Hotel

I'm amazed no one's listed Dylan here. Could it be true that everyone who's posted can get into him? That'd be impressive.

    p.s. KISS rules.

Batman...methinks you are the first Dylan fan I ever met who couldn't get into Springsteen. Perhaps this is your ticket into Ripley's Believe it or Not!

Can somebody name some of the 80's bands Franz Ferdinand sounds like? I was born in 82, so I don't remember the 80's all that vividly.

Well, they have been compared to Interpol and Interpol to me sounds like a mixture of the following:

    The Smiths
    Talking Heads
    The Cure
    Echo & the Bunnymen
    Psychedelic Furs
and of course, the heaviest influence of them all, Joy Division

Just because I care: I love Bob Dylan songs...when other people perform them. When Dylon does them live or on record I feel the urge to drive a powerdrill into my ears. Further, he has spawned generations of imitators who try to sing like crap just like him.

Funny thing is (to me, at least) that he was very critical of Phil Ochs for being only a songwriter and not a performer/singer...yet I find listening to Ochs much more enjoyable.

To the thread as a whole...there are 80's revival bands now? I wonder what that sounds like. In general, I do not buy cd's if I can't get into the music. That makes no sense. I can't get into a lot of my wife's cd's, though, so I can say this - I despise the Who. I don't know why, i have just always had an aversion to them...and then a lot of their songs are so long, so it is really painful.

Everybody is talking about Radiohead. I heard one of their songs, Creep, and didn't like it. I, clearly, am an authority.

Bands that I do not like which may make me a mutant ;)

    Pearl Jam
    U2 (from 1985 on)
    White Stripes
    Red Hot Chili Peppers
    Moby
    Bjork
    Coldplay
    Modest Mouse

I am sure that Korn, Puddle Of Mudd, Radio Head etc would make my list except I can't place the music with the name :( I think I d/l-ed stuff from these bands from the Usenet and immediately deleted them before passing Go and collecting $200 :)

BTW FB, what's not to like about Fountains of Wayne?

    Hey Batman
I really dont get in to Dylan. I recognize his place in music history but his music really does nothing for me. I really dont like his voice and his music is not very rhythmic, not enough drums, for my taste. I think its just that style of music because there are others, like Neil Young and Tom Petty that are similar with their squeaky voices and no drum having that I just cant get into at all.

As far as other stuff, there is lots of music I cant get into, like the flavor of the moment radio hit, and all of the played out Thugangstablingblingpimpsandhosrollingontwentyinchrimsandrinkingcristal music , I hate this stuff. Althouh I do like hiphop alot but just more underground stuff.

Stuff that I was into at one time but not anymore:
Led Zeppelin. Again, I recognize their place in music history but I have heard enough of their music to last the rest of my life. Frankly, I am just sick of hearing it. The same goes for the Beatles except I was sick of their music before I ever had a chance to get IN to it.

    p.s the MISFITS rule!

Batman, "dead on" regarding the Grateful Dead. I saw them live several times, but it was always part of a lineup of acts. They used to have 3 or 4 groups play at a concert, and the GD were sometimes one of them. They were fun, but I was never enough of a fan to buy an LP. (well, I got the studio LP with Cocaine on it) Lord knows, many of my friends were rabid about them.

I think if you'd seen Springsteen when he was first starting out and playing 3 hour concerts in small clubs, with 200 people dancing to him and the band he had then and going nuts, you might feel differently. The problem I have with him, though, is that after his first 2 LP's and he became a "big deal," the guy became like a caricature of himself. The creativity and raw passion became a parody of what he was. That's my opinion, anyway.

Anyone who doesn't "get" Dylan, and hasn't seen him live, needs professional help! ;)
Allan, I wish you'd seen Dylan's tour with Petty and the Heartbreakers as his band. It was amazing!

Oh, and I don't get Rap. Just don't get it. Some of the lyrics read well as poetry, but the sound gives me a headache.
